![]() i'm listening to the RageRacer soundtrack (ridge racer 3) and i was just wondering. i have plenty of OSTs and as a whole, i enjoy them way more than other CDs. is it because they have a connection to something beyond the music? the same thing goes for movie's OSTs, unless they're just a crappy compilation of bands.

![]() Projekt, I agree with you that game soundtracks are awesome to listen to because, for me at least, as I listen to each track, the image and feelings of what was going on in the game at that point instantly pop into my mind (especially games like FF6).
But then again, you can say the same for movie soundtracks or even music in general. Every time I hear STP's "Plush", I remember exactly where I was when I first heard it and thought "Hey, Pearl Jam's got a new song!!!" (I'm not kidding). The whole point of music is to evoke some kind of emotional response. VG music definitely does that if you were really into the games. Have you tried any VG music remixes? I posted a thread about it a while back -- I'll see if I can dig it up. |

![]() Halo soundtrack. Really, there are only a few songs on there, the rest are the same songs remixed, but the first song starts with the monks chanting, then it goes into some orchestral work, then in to the music that plays in the background where you are kicking arse. Had that in the cd player in the car once, jamming it, all speakers at full capacity, then I noticed I was doing 68 in a 40. Needless to say that cd stays home.
Cowboy Bebop soundtracks (OST, No Disk, and Blue) are also good. Nice to drive to. Some songs are really ok only if you like the show, others are great regardless (like all the Seat Belts stuff). The Toonami: Deep Space Bass is good house-y/techno-y stuff, best if you saw the shows, but good otherwise too. The soundtrack for Wipeout XL was great, lots of big names in electronica. The game sucked, though. |

![]() Don't forget Castlevania.
Alot of game music rocks because it's made by extremely talented people, especially in the case of Square games. I listen to the piano tracks from FFIII and Chronotrigger all the time while studying. The Doom soundtrack is also rad, considering alot of it are stolen riffs from bands like Pantera. |

![]() Mechwarrior 2, Heavy Gear and Heavy Gear 2 are all similar soundtracks with good stuff on them. My biggest complaint with the Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack is there is so many songs on there some of the better ones don't get enough time to really do them justice.
Quake, Quake2 and their ilk are pretty good due to NIN or Vrenna being involved. |

![]() NIN was only involved during Quake 1. Quake 2 was done by another band (which did put out a few good songs that I really need to find again).
Silent Hill also has really awesome soundtracks. The theme of Laura from SH2 is another great one. |

![]() I'll vouch for the Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack. Those songs are just too short though. Sure, put 24 tracks on it, but make them longer than 2 minutes! I would have settled for 15 tracks if some of them had a little more development. But overall, really good stuff.
And Castlevania rocks too. There's a bunch of great remixes of CV music out there, too. |
