I cannot figure out how exactly how you are being sarcastic. It's all fun and games until my dog gets away with my murder using my limited scientific test results as her defense. That clever bitch.

#================================================= ====

Looking at the last gen ford focus at a stoplight thinking that it's very much a handsome car at every angle. Exterior, my only gripe is the trend of the trend of designers finishing a perfectly fine rendering of a vehicle then taking the light clusters and dragging them across the belt line as far as was likely possible to manufacture ( cheaply ). But that interior was too much of a cluster ****.

The easy guess I guess of why every other non-american compact car in America has always been better in almost every way if the american car isn't a re-badged japanese car ( easiest way to exclude the entirety of korean cars pre 2000... maybe pre the last time anyone thought ,they could sneak a deawoo back into the US after having failed to sell them under pontiac, then under their own names back to GM under chevy since not only did no one want a Deawoo they also didn't want three or four versions of the same GM car and didn't really want that any GM car by the looks of their lineup these days. )

christ: tl ; dr:

Other than "of course they ****ed it up" I still cannot understand how we got the 2nd gen focus that we got in the US. The dodge caliber doesn't take the trophy for the most misguided and terrible in every sense US car or the Pontiac Asstech only because Ford could have sold the First Gen Focus untouched and have done better over what they pushed out ford the US 2nd gen and I could have not lost sleep knowing how close we are at any given time a Big Three turd is going to be plopped on our roads.

Exactly HOW flexible is the truth? DO people understand how digital video recording works?

What happened with the high school track runner who hit her opponent with a baton?
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article...145845756.html
Quote:
A Virginia high school track star has been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery after hitting an opposing runner over the head with a baton during a relay race captured on video.

Alaila Everett, a senior at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, told NBC affiliate WAVY that the incident in the viral video was an accident.

The sprinter who was struck by the baton, Brookville High School junior Kaelen Tucker, told NBC affiliate WSLS that she was diagnosed with a concussion and a possible fractured skull.

Everett has been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery, according to Bethan Harrison, the commonwealth's attorney for Lynchburg.....

"As I was coming up on her, (Everett) kind of like made me get cut off a little bit, so I backed away, and then as we got around the curve, she kept bumping me in my arm," Tucker told WSLS. "And then finally when we got off the curve, I like slowly start passing her, and then that's when she just hit me with the baton and I fell off the track."....

A tearful Everett told WAVY that hitting Tucker with the baton was unintentional and came as a result of Tucker running so close to her.

“After a couple times of hitting her, my baton got stuck behind her back like this, and it rolled up her back," Everett said. "I lost my balance and when I pumped my arms again, she got hit. She was cutting in when it happened, when she should've waited a little bit longer."

"I know my intentions, and I would never hit someone on purpose," she added.

I didn’t have to see a first video, second video or tenth video. I know 100 percent that she would never do that to nobody,” Everett's mother, Zeketa Cost, told WAVY......

To get to the urinals at work, have to proceed from door between the double sink and double brown rolled paper towel dispensers.

I'm doing my business, individual comes in, rips a slice of paper towel off, and immediately to urinal for his business.

I finish up, wash and turn to dry my hands with brown paper, and he's done, zips up, throws towel away and walks out.

Not sure if this qualifies as a "Reaaaal mannn of geeenniiuuus - Today we salute YOU mr Paper towel weenie holder" or WITALFDIJW?!?!?

No, I didn't look.

Washing your hands after you're done getting rid of waste isn't so much so you're not spreading your **** sweat everywhere but also because washing your dirty hands while you're 2ft from a sink is not a terrible idea. You know. To keep you from transferring everyone else's **** sweat and fecal mater to various parts of your body that may end up in one or more of the many orifices humans have.

this is why aliens don't visit

why we can't have nice things

why the news felt compelled to spend a significant amount of 2020 begging adults to wash their hands AND telling them how to do so. Something that falls under the "everything I need to know I learned in kindergarten"

Had one like that where I work too. Still consider that the same as not washing hands based on discussions with friends who took food prep courses at the local CC. Also have a "spritzer" - one hand under faucet for a second and no soap. And "spritzer" was the first one in the office to catch Covid.

Woman accused of drowning dog at airport after not being allowed to board

ORLANDO, Fla. (WFTV) - The Florida woman accused of killing and discarding her dog at Orlando International Airport is out on bond.

Alison Lawrence was arrested this week after the dead animal was discovered in the airport's bathroom in December.

Authorities say Lawrence drowned the dog after she was told she didn't have the proper paperwork to take the pet on the plane.

"Someone that would do such a thing would be pretty disturbed upstairs," a resident in Lawrence's neighborhood reacted.

Lawrence is charged with animal cruelty.

Lawrence posted a $5,000 bond.

I guess we can go ahead and close the book for 2025. A lot of worse **** has and will happen but I don't think it would be as nonlinear as drowning your dog in an airport because they couldn't get on a flight.

I hope.

AI needs to be stopped now.

The 80s movies predicted robots wiping us out but the AI is planning on destroying us by making us slowly dumber. The image above is total AI.

This film "Metropolis" from 1927 takes place in 2026.

In the future, wealthy industrialists and business magnates and their top employees reign over the city of Metropolis from colossal skyscrapers, while underground-dwelling workers toil to operate the great machines that power it. Joh Fredersen is the city's master. His son, Freder, idles away his time at sports and in a pleasure garden, but is interrupted by the arrival of a young woman named Maria, who has brought a group of workers' children to witness the lifestyle of their rich "brothers".

Maria and the children are ushered away, but Freder becomes fascinated by her. Against the strict rules of the city, he enters the lower levels to search for her. In the machine halls, he witnesses the explosion of a huge machine that kills and injures numerous workers. Freder has a hallucination that the machine is a temple of Moloch and the workers are being fed to it. When the hallucination ends, and he sees the dead workers being carried away on stretchers, he hurries to tell his father about the accident.

Grot, foreman of the Heart Machine, brings Fredersen strange maps found on the dead workers. Fredersen fires his assistant Josaphat for not being the first to bring him details about the explosion or the maps. After seeing his father's cold indifference towards the harsh conditions faced by the workers, Freder secretly rebels by deciding to help them. He enlists Josaphat's assistance and returns to the machine halls, taking the place of a worker who has collapsed from exhaustion.

Fredersen takes the maps to the city's greatest inventor, Rotwang, to learn their meaning. Rotwang had been in love with a woman named Hel, who left him to marry Fredersen and later died giving birth to Freder. Rotwang shows Fredersen a robot he has built to "resurrect" Hel. The maps show a network of catacombs beneath Metropolis, and the two men go to investigate. They eavesdrop on a gathering of workers, including Freder. Maria addresses them, prophesying the arrival of a mediator who can bring the working and ruling classes together. Freder believes he can fill the role and declares his love for Maria.

Fredersen orders Rotwang to give Maria's likeness to the robot so that it can discredit her among the workers but is unaware that Rotwang's true plan is to usurp him as ruler by sparking a revolution. Rotwang kidnaps Maria, fashions the robot in her image, and presents her to Fredersen. Freder finds the two embracing and, believing his father to have betrayed him, falls into a prolonged delirium. Intercut with his hallucinations, the false Maria preaches to the workers that they must rise up against the surface world, resulting in chaos and dissent.

Freder recovers and returns to the catacombs, accompanied by Josaphat. Finding the false Maria urging the workers to destroy the machines, he accuses her of not being the real Maria. The workers ignore him and carry out her wishes, smashing the machines and triggering a great flood that threatens to drown their children. The real Maria, having escaped from Rotwang's house, rescues the children with help from Freder and Josaphat. Grot berates the celebrating workers for abandoning their children in the flooded city. The workers become hysterical and condemn the false Maria, burning her at the stake. A horrified Freder watches until the fire reveals her to be a robot. Rotwang, insanely believing Maria to be a reincarnated Hel, chases her to the roof of the cathedral, pursued by Freder. The two men fight as Fredersen and the workers watch from the street, and Rotwang falls to his death. Freder fulfills his destiny to unite the city and the underworld by linking the hands of Fredersen and Grot to bring them together.

Watching something about AI last night. My ears perked up and had to go back to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. A Japanese company called CYBERDYNE makes various robotic parts and a robotic suit. The person interviewing the company owner ALSO had to go back to make sure she heard what they thought they heard, "your company is call CYBERDYNE?" -they asked. Yes. She had a follow up question asking "Named after the fictional company in Terminator? " The guy/ceo/owner/wtf laughed saying "Oh no no. It's named after the terminator."

I think I would feel a tiny bit better about the coming enslavement and/or termination of mankind if people would stop using the "everything that could go wrong went wrong" sci-fi as their general outline of what they're trying to accomplish.

Somewhat fascinating is trying to find what was the first story that could be considered purely sci-fi. With metropolis the only thing that really dates it is everything in the movie. But the concept, themes and outcome could be any present sci-fi used as a warning that someone else will use as their guide book.

I did not check this link for obvious reasons:

I want to say it does come from that general timeline. For what most people agree to anyway.

A True Story

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_True_Story

Probably a lot of splitting hairs to nail down "what is Sci-fi" the same as no one can agree on what a sports car is and the other 99.% of people couldn't be bothered to care. Mythical creatures? Half horse / half man? As sci-fi as Dr. Moreau.
