Youtube has taken a hint having stopped sending me incredible ( literally so ) pictures of foreign ladies with the odd off the charts cougar with terrible posture. Now they're sending pictures of women that have just woken up early in the new relationship phase of courtship = washing up and doing their hair where it's not matted to one side of their head but leaving it cute/messy not totally styled just yet.

hmmmm

# gripe: can't make a choice on a new laptop

## gripe: decision paralysis

### horror: mac book pro is making the best objective case for itself but the only apples I want are cut up with some peanut butter on them.

#### horror: after 5 years with the current lenovo laptop I said good things about it and I'm sure google picked up on that with the lenovo now trying its best to go on to its reward

##### indifference: I normally would have two backups if not three ( one cold )

###### so hard to say goodbye to yesterday: I haven't had "normal" in about 5 years.

####### joy: set up a little piece of normal to get back to feeling like

######## concern: the laptop now ****ting its pants is the newest hardware I own

######### horror: "could be a lot worse" i think listening to Rwanda genocide history. It's a little better than getting your own choice for how you're going to die.

########## gripe: Getting chased by naked women off of a cliff was not on the menu

ASUS... and done. No regats from mine that I have had since 2021.

One of the coolest things that ASUS offers is the ability to change the state of charge of the battery to maximize it's lifespan. Since mine stays mostly plugged in, it only charges to 60% state of charge.

Read ASUS reviews to see if you like playing the quality control gamble. I had one for a week before getting the Lenovo and the build itself is just cheap. A lot of people absolutely love them but they have never been a quality contender to me. I'm pretty sure setting the battery charge level is standard now, my Lenovo will even fast charge like a cell phone if you want.

Man, I am REALLY wary of buying ASUS anything. They are such a dog**** customer service company.

5 years is a pretty good go for a laptop lifetime.

I, too will be shopping for a new laptop. Debating a thin/light/small, vs a gaming laptop. I game exclusively on my desktop now (except for solitaire). I do use my laptop every night while watching TV to surf the net, reddit, nasioc, etc. Also on the road for basic stuff.

I can't speak to the ubiquity of this but started noticing it ~10 years ago. Just checking the 10 year old laptop I put back into daily service to confirm it has it.

I did feel I took a gamble on my lenovo. It was recommend by someone here based on my hope to find basically my old dell XPS but not ~$1300-$1500 that still only had 8GB of RAM. It's pretty much exactly that, 730S-13IWL Laptop (ideapad) - Type 81JB.

I've been sticking with 13" laptops as the best compromise for features, portability and having only 'one' computer. The best thing I've read about AI is that it may be a pile of bull**** but it is making base memory/RAM trend upward to 16GB.

What's bull**** is in the last 10 years, based on my limited awareness, is that 8 and 16GB memory is still the norm. I know you can more but that usually saddled by everything else I do not need/want. The most burdensome thing I run are VMs but they rarely use more resources than Firefox does sitting idle

I will confess that one of the things I did not want was a touch screen. I had never once intentionally used it on my older laptop causing me to have mini freakouts when I accidentally touched just right to slight ****up whatever I was doing then having to remember "right, touch screen". The touch screen not exactly has saved my ass here but it has made it a little easier to coax the old girl back to life.

# credit where its due

Maybe in another five years I'll find something good to say about the "180 degree hinge" of this lenovo that has been the only real oddity with it.

Mrs Blues has the unfortunate habit of always pointing something out by leaving a smudge mark on the screen on my desktop. On my touch screen laptop, not only does it leave a smudge mark, but it sends you careening into some unknown place.

They still do the 180 degree hinge on everything and I don't get the point. I can't think of a situation where I need to look at my screen as if it's a tapletop.

If I am using my laptop and iPad at the same time, I often poke at the laptop screen, and it takes ma a coupe pokes to remember it's not a touchscreen.

This is what I bought in 2020 or 2021. Crazy that it's still listed available for more than I paid for it. In the 5 years, I've had to replace a cooling fan that got noisy, but otherwise haven't had a single hardware or software/ driver issue. I also refuse to upgrade it to Win11.

ASUS TUF Gaming A15 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" 144Hz Full HD IPS-Type, AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, GeForce RTX 2060, 16GB DDR4, 1TB PCIe SSD, Gigabit Wi-Fi 5, Windows 10 Home

I was sure they were going to tie the design of it to Lamborghini. If Lamborghini gave you a complimentary laptop that's exactly what it should look like.

Not bad, the one I had last year and returned was basically the 2023 version of that, the A16. The internals didn't look like they were put together with much care. It worked beautifully but it ran incredibly hot due to cheap thermal design so I wasn't sure about longevity.

And an indifference. Windows 11 is actually much more pleasant to use in many areas, but the right click menu is still terrible.

So is the new notepad, although they were kind enough to leave the old exe in the Windows folder. (does anyone else cringe and want it to "directory" again? )

For context, it is really easy to use UIPath RPA with notepad to create files that the user can see being created, but not so much with the new version. The UI changed, and UIPath doesn't seem to know how to find stuff.

Just curious, what is your plan for when Win10 is no longer supported? Some flavor of Linux?

Not totally sure I follow. Using WIN-10 and in the "my PC" gui there's the top pain of "commonly used" folders that you can't recall commonly using and they always seemed to be mapped/linked something different. Is that it?

I normally use powershell and 'nix cli/bash . The good = everything is where I left it. The bad is "Desktop" is just another folder so there is a moment of "what the ****" logging into a complete mess displayed for my desktop.

edit: re-reading what you wrote I think that is what you were talking about ( ? )

I've used 11 on a few other machines, and it's just like any other evolution of Windows, more options or config settings are hidden beyond yet another layer of menu or request of access. Just let me setup the goddamned thing the way I want. No I don't need alerts or pop ups for are you sure you want to do this.

Oh you want to get into config.sys, let's add another question before you even get there.

Nothing most likely. It's not just going to brick itself. I kept Windows 2K Pro and then 7 both way beyond when they were supported, because they were solid OS(s).

I hear ya. I ran XP Pro (actually still use it for some things) until a year ago. Too many sites needed a new software version on browser, but I couldn't update browser due to being XP.
Now I have a new Lenovo Legion running 11. I wanted a trackpoint, but I also wanted a gaming biased portable. Decisions decisions.

I forgot about XP Pro, another good OS. But yes, eventually you run into those issues with xyzabc version of Chrome is no longer supported for the get****ed plugin etc.

I don't get alerts or popups asking me to confirm anything so I'm not sure what this in reference to. Do you leave User Account Controls turned on? The closest thing I can think of is the right click menu I mentioned, where you have to click the "show more options" bit so it shows the whole menu.

The account you're using might be an admin account or an account that cannot escalate to an admin account or have any "one off" admin privileges and/or you've somehow avoided anything that would require escalated privileges by pure happenstance.
