Exactly. I described the "bombers". Both types come to the US, the cautious and the bombers.

there's a big difference between asians who've been here a while and are used to driving compared to someone practically FOB from china who might not have driven before they came here.

so of course you're notice the retard who can't back up, change lanes etc, but if it's an asian acting "normally", no one takes a second look.

This is one of those generalizations where I like when people don't consider Filipinos as asians. So keep us out of this one

I use to live in Japan back in the late '60's, early '70's. We'd go to the beach, in the morning it would be pristine, at the end of the day it would look like a trash heap. These were beautiful beach towns too, Atami, Kamakura, kind of like the equivalent of Laguna Beach or Carmel.

The Japanese as individuals were so neat and clean but put them in a group in public and it apparently never occured to them to pick up after themselves.

For a people who take pride in valuing the group over the individual, I found this behavior very strange.

I good chunk of the reason for some asians to be bad is that they are first generation immigrants who have never had a car before. So you will see a guy who is in his thirties etc driving like a 16 year old kid, since he is going to have the same level of experience. I remember in college driving around with some asian and white friends, and one of the white guys say some asian lady change lanes in a weird way and mad a comment about that. So through the rest of our drive I pointed out all of the drivers who where driving like clowns. Lets just say that he no longer had the misconception about asians being the group with the worst drivers. Yes, this little edumacation session did also take into account the higher white population as well. Nothing mean or bad was said from me as I was doping this, I just counted off each time we came across the morons on the road.

As for me, I say i drive better than most out on the roads. Most people half ass their way down the road giving other drivers mixed signals and not paying attention. I am black and white when it comes to letting you know what I am doing and plan to do. I'm 33 years old, have been driving since 15. Through out that time I've only been in one accident, and that was hitting ice going int a tunnel, but no one else was involved and no injuries.

Im chinese american... my family came here in 1849, which most likely means we've been here longer then most people. i do admit that a lot of asians do not know how to drive. but then again compared to me, people (white/black/hispanic) dont know how to drive. the best answer for this Misconception of asians being bad drivers is this... in asia kids are trained from the time they start their education, to be book smart. not to be active in sports or anything of that nature. so their reflexes are going to be a lot slower then lets say... anyone growing up here in the united states. parents stress education over there. thats why theres that other stereotype about all asians being smart. id say a lot of the fobs are smart compared to the americanized ones.

ohh well..

and wassup with the old ladies in th fast lane doing 50 in a 65???

You obvious is a twinky because any of your parent's Asian friends would have already known your last name so only your first name is necessary. Just like here, your full name is used only when you're in trouble and your parents is yelling for you.

Oh, Good Lord, just reading that made me cringe.

Yes, Mr. Obvious, but out of politeness and respect, I always introduce myself by my full name, even if they're friends of my parents.

My parents never used my full name when they yelled at me.

I've had that experience as well. I happen to live in a big apartment complex in Nashua, NH that's literally 40% indians. It's probably an unfair representative sample because almost all of them are freshly in the country working software jobs and are only living in the complex for a year or two while they save up for a house. But they have to be the worst drivers I've ever seen as a group. Probably the 30 year old with the driving experience of a 16 year old syndrome that someone else mentioned.

I think there's another factor involved as well, though. I could be completely wrong on this, but I suspect that most of them are from the upper class in India, and that they're so used to not worrying about the lower classes around them that they actively ignore every other car on the road. It's like they instantly acquire all the bad characteristics and complete lack of courtesy that M******* drivers usually take 10 or 15 years to build up.

Is it true? Are all asians bad drivers? No, of course not. But, I can understand where the stereotype came from and how it happened.
The stereotype came in long ago and haven't changed. Those who uses this and other stereo types are just finding an easy reference that's already in existance. In fact, I know plenty of whites that drives badly. Just like not all Hindus smell, blacks steal, Japanese women cute and Icelanic women hot, it's all stereotypes.
