I went full derp. My PC is getting to the point to where playing the Diablo IV beta was an exercise in anger management. I was going to buy a new system for around $1000 (RTX 3XXX setup, probably 3070). But then I was like wait, I can play D4 cross platform with others and my keyboard and mouse will work with a PS5. So yeah, I ordered a PS5. But that wasn't enough. I had to order a PSVR2 Horizon bundle as well. So, a little more than what I was going to spend on a new PC but can do a lot more with it. I'm looking forward to some GT7 action in VR.

Oh, and to stay on track you bet your ass I'm gonna get the Last of Us for it as well.

Do you have a wheel setup? It's the "logical" next step for GT7 in VR.

I have a G25 setup. I understand there are adapters that will let me use it on the PS5. I'll be using a controller for the time being until I get over the wallet damage. Then the wheel setup gets dusted off.

So, I played Last of Us Part 1 (the newest 2023 version) and after I finished it, I started Last of Us II. The graphics are much better on Last of Us II than on Last of Us Part 1. So, I guess they just took the "remastered" version of Last of Us and then spiffed it up a little and added the new features for dualsense controller for this newest version of the game. It was still good to play through it again, but I'm not sure if it was good enough for the $70 since I could have just played the remastered one that is included with PS plus. So, just a head's up for anyone thinking about getting the newest version on PS5. Still glad they have released it for PC though.

One of the most disappointing PC launches of the year was the conversion of The Last of Us Part 1. Many patches have followed since we first looked at the game and many issues remain - particularly in terms of stutter, CPU and GPU utilisation. However, the good news is that at least the texture management problems have been comprehensively resolved - and a highly respectable experience is now possible for PC users with 8GB graphics cards.
I haven't had a chance to play much in the last few weeks, so I'm looking forward to seeing these changes. CN: Several key improvements have been made, but some issues remain.

EDIT: I put an hour and change in. It looks great and is definitely smoother on my settings (4K, High, DLSS Quality). The VRAM usage is much improved, and it never dropped below 70 fps for me.

The Last Of Us Season 2 Timeline Won't Be Same As The Game

Quote:
HBO's The Last of Us returns for its highly anticipated second season this April, and now we've learned a key piece of information about it. Showrunner Craig Mazin said in an interview that Season 2 will not follow the timeline of the game exactly. It will depart from the game's timeline, but Mazin didn't say how--only that the changes from the game were made with care and designed to tell the best story for TV.

"We certainly are going to mess around with time the way it was in the source material... we messed around in ways that we felt were appropriate for the show," Mazin told Entertainment Weekly. "When I say 'messed around,' I mean scientifically determined in a narrative way what we thought would be most impactful."

...."I don't even know if it's worth mentioning where we landed because I think that's part of the fun for people familiar with the game to see how we approached that challenge in the show," he said. "I will just say that we gave it a lot of thought and tried different things. There are some deviations of where we place things."

....The creative team behind The Last of Us TV show is expecting fans to have strong opinions about Season 2. Mazin previously said he anticipates "furor" over Season 2 and the departures from the game. Mazin said he is only trying to do what is right for the story, even if people don't like it.

"We don't operate to either make people happy on social media or avoid making them upset. We just do what we think is right, and we hope that people come along for the ride and enjoy it," he said.
I'll be very interested to see how they decided to deviate. I thought the pacing of the game was pretty much perfect and quite impactful; however, I'll also appreciate that they probably had to make certain story decisions to accommodate a better game play. Without having to worry about it being confined to writing a playable game narrative it should be fun to see where they take the story. Im sure a lot of game purists will still end up being super butthurt though

There are some pretty major bullet points that would need to be adhered to to even make it "The Last Of Us", but otherwise I think most of us who have played the game have expected pretty significant deviation from how the story, and especially the timing of events, will take place in a TV adaption.

I still say there's enough material in that game for 3 more seasons.

I always thought the Abby flashback/reveal would be the perfect ending to season 2 - such great "whoa....WTF" moment. It would be a great mindf_ck for everyone waiting for season 3. it'll be interesting to see if thats one of the things they're changing and, if so, where it'll land.

Same here, that's exactly how I thought they would do it. It would be good TV! So i'm curious how they are going to 1 up that

I'm watching Star Trek Discovery on Paramount+ for the first time. On the last episode I watched a new character was introduced and I say out loud "if HBO casts anyone other than this actor in the role of Lev in TLOU season 2, they would be wrong. They are perfect."

I pull up IMDB and find that they were perfect. They played Lev in the game.

First season reviews are starting to come in and going about as expected. People liking the spectacle but feeling a lot of it is incomplete and not fully explained (who are the WLF? Why are they fighting the scars, WTF is their story etc). well, ya, duh. Theres really no payoff or proper context until the second half of the game, which would be season 3

I did read in an interview with Druckmann that they made some big changes to the Abby reveal. Dunno how I feel about it, but I get you need to tell a story a different way when you're not actively playing the characters. They crushed S1 so I'll give them the benefit of a doubt

Yeah, there's just too much to cover. They likely don't/didn't have the time to film the entire second game which is going to hurt the show in the short term.

Between the major events that happen early on and where they are likely going to split the seasons the vibe I'm getting is non game fans are probably going to be really sour on season 2.

We'll see.

Kinda wish they were able to at least do a 6 month gap between 2 and 3 but unfortunately thats not how it works anymore.

I have pretty high faith in Mazin so hopefully the track record continues.

Personally, I had started a replay of part 2 a couple of weeks ago and I'm barely 30% through I thought the switching between Ellie and Abby started way before it actually does. I'll be curious to see how much of Abby is actually in S2.

I did a playthrough of the remastered cut a week ago to get a refresher on the story. Just decided to to NG+ and turn on the modifiers to give my self a less stressful, less grindy experience. Really helped the story shine IMO. And the additional skins were great - I played as Glam 80's Abby the whole time and some of the cut scenes were hilarious.

I'm doing the NG+ as well, didn't know about the skins. May have to check it out.

I will say having my weapons already maxed out to start has been a nice buff.

Assuming this is the "let spoilers fly" thread for the show....

...

Final warning...

...telegraphing Abbys intentions right off the bat is an interesting direction. Off the jump I wasn't feeling, though I suppose I should trust Mazin and co.

I love the casting for Abby, Dina, Jessie. I am also curious where they plan to go with the Eugene/Gail angle. Having that scene lay out how Eugene goes is likely going to come up later.

ya, the game thread is the spoiler thread

I read as to why they had to give a little bit of her backstory upfront, and I'm fine with it. So far it's only a half reveal, so could still save that other nugget for the end of season with that cut scene flashback. Or, maybe she spills the beans when she's playing whack-a-mole

Love all the casting so far except for Owen (assuming that was him) - dude was way to much of a wuss. Overall super solid ep - I have a feeling this season is gonna be great

After sitting on it, telegraphing Abby's intentions already shouldn't be a big deal. If anything It may actually lull people who aren't in the know into a false sense of security.

"Oh okay she's the season 2 antagonist I'm sure Joel, Ellie, and co will be going back and forth with her all season..."

It is heavily implied that all of those people were someone special to them and then since they are all youngish, it could almost be implied that they were related to the doctors, scientists, etc. I am already on the up and up. Wiki it during season one and again last night after watching.

Ehh yeah she says her dad. I haven't seen anything yet on the reddit threads where people have sniffed out exactly who her dad is yet. Abbys group having that discussion by so many graves is actually a bit of red herring if you think about it. I have not refinished the game but I only really remember her Dad and maybe one other of her group who was related to one of the Drs? Abby is the one 10000% out for blood. If they keep that as the focus I think it'll be tough to for people not in the know to tie the loose ends early.

In the game, it's just her and Owen who came from the SLC Fireflys - everyone else was WLF's they met when they got to Seattle, which is a big reason why Mel isn't super on board with the whole thing and hates Abby for dragging them along for it
