Default Why are asians bad drivers? and other questions here...

I thought it might be interesting to start a thread like this. I'll do my best to answer any questions about asian culture.

Why are asians bad drivers?
The majority of bad asian drivers are immigrants. If you ever visit Taiwan, you'll know why they are such bad drivers. In asia, street signals and laws are "optional". Driving is insane there. You HAVE to drive under the speed limit so you'll have time to avoid people breaking laws on the road. Let me give you an example...
When driving on the highway, we assume people coming from an on-ramp will merge properly into traffic. In Taiwan, many people just bomb onto the freeway, and whoever is on it needs to get out of the way. So, sometimes you see asians slowing down at random times on the roads, and sometimes you see a bomber. That's because they're trying to avoid the random bomber. Hit and runs are very common there. If you park on the street there, dont' be surprised if you have "surprises" waiting for you when you get back. Your car may have dings, or you may be missing a sideview mirror.

Another reason is that many asians (like my parents) are very conservative. They came here for a higher education, so they're kinda nerdy and conservative. My mom takes forever when she's doing any type of reverse manuever. She figures if she takes a little extra time, she might be able to avoid an accident that would cost her a lot of money.

So how do people have nice cars there?
First of all, people who have nice cars there are VERY rich. Taxes on new cars are insane. For example, you can get a new Lexus RX for about 40K. It will cost you more than 65K if you buy it in Taiwan. If you're rich enough to have a car like that, you're also rich enough to have a place to park it. Also, people who are really rich have drivers. It's much more common there than here.
