I don't care - it's all funny, just I feel like with some of this stuff that wasn't supposed to be so obvious, it seemed like they tried to hide it a little better in the past.
If you recall, they did an episode (in Croatia I think) where they addressed the "scripted" part of the show. Of course, they did "unscripted" over the top, just to show a production of this scale can not be unscripted. (the events in Argentina being the exception)
I don't think they are trying to mask the scripted parts and pass them as genuine. The example of the minefield was obvious. I don't think a functioning adult would think they would just stumble onto an active minefield on the planned route and have a legit discussion about driving through it.
Sure, there are times when shit goes wrong and their emotions (anger, laughter) and dialogue are real, but as a general rule, most stunts/scenes are done in many (rehearsed) takes.

It's not as bad as American Top Gear, the last episode I watched they "took a wrong turn" into a cemetery where 5 cameras were set up.

Top Gear and Grand Tour fall into a peripheral category of reality TV that is partially scripted. These shows have been produced in the US and UK for some time now. The difference is, I believe, that UK shows seem to try to pass off scripted for real much more often whereas US shows generally admit up front to the scripted portions. Given the origins of Grand Tour I'm not surprised how the present but they are much more self aware now with a *wink and nudge type presentation.

Personally I find the scripted items (other than the pranks) the most boring. I would rather they just have objectives and routes and film them and show us the best parts. They could still have illogical routes because the purpose is entertainment. I also like the ad libbed dialogue.

to the point though, in the Bolivian Top Gear episode it was a lot easier to get sucked in and believe that they just dumped them on the side of a river with no real knowledge of how to get the cars off.

and maybe they did.

when they did their '3 wise men' journey and James May was an idiot with a tow strap, that certainly wasn't scripted, and maybe that was some turning point in their filming? like, hey, it's funny to have 3 blokes who don't know what they are doing trying random things, but maybe we make it harder for one of them to die?

it's impossible to believe that they didn't do any research, or planning at all, or even think to look over their shoulders before Clarkson went down the side of the hill? and oh, look over there what's been in plain sight the whole time, it's a road! it was funny when Clarkson was talking to them on the walkie talkie, and they were standing behind him.

and how do you get to a river crossing and not have known, or researched how they crossed the river in the Dakar rally?

even with that, it was enjoyable.

I could have done without the minefield and the winching down the hill. It felt so forced, wasn't funny and didn't add anything to the story.

The only genuine chuckles I gave were during the visit to the ambassadors office, especially when Jeremy fumbled the Ferrero Rochers. That whole bit was well set up and well executed. It was the best part of the show for me. Everything else felt weak.

I still enjoyed it though.

Finished the Sand Job, thought it was fine. Blatantly scripted parts and not, after 20+ years, not sure what else folks are expecting from the Top Gear Trio/Andy Wilman.

A post show radio interview with Hammond by Chris Evans (the one nobody likes):

Another relaxing, lengthy interview with James May after the most recent GT ep:

Visually there's nothing, just 3 guys in a podcast studio sitting around, just play the vid and listen to the audio in the background while working at your desk and listen to some fun James May stories, pretend youre listening to an NPR show (if that's your jam).
