Default 2012 Outback 2.5i Power Steering Fluid Leaking

I have a couple questions regarding my 2012 2.5i Premium Outback:

1. My power steering pump just started whining within the last few days and I checked the fluid and it was almost empty. There are no apparent leaks and my garage floor is bone dry - no oil, no leaks of any kind - anything anywhere! The pump is clean - no oil on it anywhere as are the hoses. What the heck?

2. I screwed up and I accidentally poured about 1/4 cup/3-4 tablespoons of brake fluid into the reservoir before I noticed that I grabbed brake fluid! DOH!!! So I need to do a complete multiple flush to get all that crap out. It says use ATF Dexron so are all the Dexron's compatible - ATF Dexron V & VI automatic transmission fluid etc...??? or can I use synthetic?

Thanks for any replies and help.

So after some research I guess the Dexron V & VI ATF is compatible with all other previous versions of Dexron ATF - backwards compatible. So that answers the question about the synthetic as well because the VI is synthetic. Still can't figure out where the fluid went though since it's not on my garage floor.
