Open Car Trailer: Econo Trailer (Dively), Bri Mar, or other?
I'm looking at 18' open deck trailers...
Econo Trailer - $2,000.00 http://www.econotrailer.com/Open.html Bri Mar - $2,500.00 http://www.bri-mar.com/trailerdetail...&categorysid=4 I know a few local guys that have the Econo Trailer and I think they have been happy with them. The only down side is I have to go to PA to get one directly from them. There is a dealer in Frederick, MD that has the Bri Mar for that price. Is there something else I'm missing out on in that price range that I can get within 150 miles of zip code 20904? There will be no poll.

Are you stuck on new?
I found a lot of 3-5 year old trailers on Craigslist when I was looking. I ended up getting one w/ 5K axles & dual brakes for $900. |

I'm not stuck on new, but also haven't found that kind of deal. There is a guy up in PA with a 2002 Bri Mar that wants $2K for it. I can go the same distance and pay the same money and get a new Econo Trailer. edit: I've been watching racingjunk and craigslist. If anyone else is in the market for a used trailer, I'm sure some smoking deal will pop up right after I buy. |

from the experiences I've had and from what I've seen, a new open trailer is generally a better buy. With used, you generally end up paying enough in maintenance that it makes up the (relatively small) gap in price from new to used.

Man, when I was trailer shopping I was looking for an open deck and simply couldn't find one that wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg extra to get it shipped to me. Those look like pretty nice, and very easy to load/unload.
I ended up going with a new 18' dove-tail steel deck for around $3500 from a local place here in Reno. Dual axle brakes, and built like a tank... it weighs just a little less than the car I tow on it, (I'm glad I have a diesel truck to tow with). What sucks is the ground clearance in the rear of the trailer (that's where the ramps are stowed) when backing up driveways, and the relatively short ramps (w/o the dovetail, I would have had to get longer ramps made up). |

Depends how much and how far you are towing.
I went with a Featherlite for my rally car - yes it was more money to get an aluminum trailer - but it tows SO much better. Especially since I have to cross the Rockies to get to 3 events per year. This one http://www.fthr.com/bumper-pull_car-trailer/model3110/ I went for the 22' one - - lots of room up front for tires and such |

So do you guys see anything that makes the Bri Mar worth an extra $500?
The only thing I noticed is it looks like the lights are better constructed? The Bri Mar also mentions a 2 year warranty... |

not mine, guy that runs in COM.
I have an 18 foot Bri-mar open trailer, diamond plate deck, open center, dual axle electric brakes, front storage box with winch mount, removable fenders... It is a top of the line 7000# gvw trailer (powder coated so it still looks quite nice). $1800 firm |
