Ugh, we are talking about going to Utah in June. I am really tempted to drive out so I can bring bikes and do a little vehicle exploring. Right now we are planning to fly and rent a vehicle, though.

There are some outfitters that rent jeeps if you want the driving. If you don’t bring bikes you will wish you had. We are camping near trails called Klonzo on the west side of Arches. We for sure have had fun at the easily accessible parts of Arches NP and Canyonlands but the ones off the beaten path are a lot of fun since you’re not surrounded by people. We went to a couple spots where we were 100% solo for hours inside the NP which in my experience is unheard of. |

Some thoughts after hauling the pop up for the week and such.
I ended up averaging over all driving just under 13mpg. I suspect towing I was 11-12, off road probably not much better, and anytime I was running around on highways without trailer was better. I was either towing or in off-road situations most of the week with lots of 4-low. The towing went fine - the trailer weighs about 3,500# loaded as far as I can figure and other than loading just a bit heavy on the tongue end on the way to camp I think it was fine. One the way back I balanced it better and it towed nicer. It helps we had less food, drinks, propane, and water on the way back so the overall weight was less. Driving up the mountains I was able to maintain whatever speed I needed but it's not like towing with a higher power longer wheelbase pickup. Gets the job done though. I cannot wait to get the Kings and do a similar trip to what I've done this week. I had lots of higher speed dirt road driving that would have been cool to see the difference and also lots of sustained off road where the suspension was working. Curious how the performance of a bigger shock with a resivoir over a 2-3hr rough/rocky road is different. As far as the pop-up goes for camping it was nice to have a space with a heater, lights, and sleeping room for everybody. It ended up being cluttered with crap all week and we were on top of each other inside but that's the way it goes. Renting went well - it was not a big hassle and overall I felt the cost was worth it ($800ish for a week off season with a generator). If you think of it as versus a hotel cost very reasonable, if you think of it as % of purchase price of a camper less great but I don't want to store it and this works for an occasional rental. I think I'd do it again in an off-season situation where the nights are cool enough that everybody is more comfortable having a warm spot to sit and sleep. We camped dispersed for free north of Moab. No new significant trail damage but my tailpipe is squashed a bit more and needs to be bent back round at some point. Last edited by thechickencow; 03-26-2021 at 01:16 PM. |

Can you just chop it off somewhere before it's too low and outboard to get into trouble without potential problems?

I think if it gets real bad I’ll do a side exit but with the lift coming soon I’ll have a lot better departure angle and also stiffer rear springs so the frequency of hits should be less. |

The outlet on my Magnaflow Overland I just added to my 4Runner tucks it up nice and high above the bottom edge of the bumper. A bit louder though, which you may not want.

Whelp, time to register my 4runner in Colorado.
What a pain. I apparently have to have the VIN verified by a cop or something even though I have a title. Then go to the DMV and somehow have them calculate what I owe. I’m not entirely sure how it’s calculated and also wondering if I’ll get screwed since I waited until expiration to get plates. Who knows. I’m not going to bother with personalized plates. |

The VIN verification is done at the county clerk & recorder office, and the registration fee is based off original MSRP multiplied by a certain percentage based on the age of the vehicle, until it bottoms out around ~$75.

I figured out I’m in the 0.9-0.45% of 85% of MSRP based on a ‘17. I wonder how they figure MSRP, I paid like $41k I think. It says a cop can sign and the police station is close so I’ll just swing in there sometime before my appointment. |

I did. Amazing. Worked flawless. Would do again. One of my most fav purchases. 24° last night outside tent. As warm as I wanted inside.

Nice tent. Any dislikes? How's the ventilation? I'm in the market for a new roof tent. I like the style and price of Smittybilt Overland but it is quite huge so I'm still open to other options. |

I’m definitely a fan of hard roof top tents. My friend has a James beroud tent and it’s similar but lacks the good fabric of the autohome and most importantly the awesome customer service and warranty. |

I'm looking at Tundra's. They have my interest piqued and I would like to go from 4 vehicles (small car, old truck, ford flex, Odyssey) down to two (Flex / Truck, Odyssey).
Anyone have a Tundra and can comment? I'm looking at lightly used and new. Based on what I'm seeing <10k mile examples are selling for almost new prices. The Lunar Rock TRD Pro really appeals but I won't be doing much of what I'd call offroading (Moab or trail running). |
