Default JDM EJ205 education needed

Saw the Gruppe-S post on the dealer's board for the JDM EJ205 Legacy motors for $1400 and it seems like an awesome deal for a motor that gives you AVCS, higher compression, better cams, better heads, etc. Before I dive in and do something I may regret later, what would be the major differences between these motors and the V7 and V8 STi motors that sell for over 4 times as much?

I'm not worried about the plastic intake manifold because I can swap my stock one over. And I already have a bigger Helix intercooler, so that's not an issue either. Just wondering if there are differences like closed deck vs. semi-closed vs. open, or lack of TGV's in the intake, or things like that which make the V7 and V8 motors worth the premium price. I also know I'd have to get a JDM ECU, so the comparison is more like $2k vs. $8k. But it still seems like way too good a deal to pass up.

Any help from the JDM motor experts here?

The legacy motors are used. The ones you see on the site are brand new crate longblocks. The JDM legacy EJ205 probably have the same bottom end as USDM EJ205. The V7 and 8 JDM STi motors are EJ207, they will have a stronger bottom end with a faster valvetrain.

A closed block can withstand more power then a semi-closed block. Open blocks are the weakest as nothing prevents the cylinders from moving around at higher power levels.
TGV's are required by emmissions in order to obtain the WRX's LEV status. In japan, emmissions are not as strict as they are here, so they don't have them.

i just got a v8 sti motor off gruppe-s, good stuff man mike is a genious. they do a realy good job if you plan to have it installed. the parts are practically new. the engine i got was a take off but upon mikes inspection he said that the motor didnt even seem to have 8 miles on it he said there were no carbon buildups. i personaly went with a v8 ej207 vf35 565's jdm ecu and an ecutek reflash 230 on their dyno on a simple tune, full boost/trq at 3k. ill be retunninn after i get some miles in it.
