04 sti made a ticking engine noise and then died
Well while i was driving at 50 mph the car starts to make a hard clicking noise coming from the engine bay. it felt like it lost compresion and then died. engine turns but would not start at all. Just want some suggestion to what it might be or what to check before i consider taking apart the engine.
thanks in advance.

Would restart with spun bearing.
Check your timing/belt. |

Oil level was fine. I did a oil change myself the day before. I notice that car has been burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles. I had regular 10 w 40

Turn the ignition key to the RUN position and use a OBDII scanner to see what codes it might have thrown.

You'll be fumbling in the dark until you find out if it threw any codes.
But, if you're really itching to do something, you could always pull the spark plugs and give them a look. |

I will go ahead and check and get back with the info. Also thought of taking of the timing belt cover to double check as I did the head gaskets a couple of months ago.

Hey there, did you ever figure this out? My subaru just started doing this a few days ago, and this is the first post I've found that has the same problems.
