Probably not for a long time. I'm probably even going to start cancelling some of my air miles/hotel point credit cards since I don't see myself being able to use a lot of those perks in the near future.

You know cancelling active credit card accounts only hurts your credit scores, especially older accounts, best to just make sure balance is zero, put them away inna drawer and never use them.

But what if I want my score to drop to 840?

The cards that I have have annual fees which I can only justify paying if I'm using all those free hotel nights and stuff.

The only travel-ish cards I have are the amex platinum and venture, whose points have uses other than travel. I hadn't actually though of travel rewards recently. Thinking further, given how screwed that industry will be.. If an airline or hotel chain were to throw a bajillion points (or something at least 5x better than the paltry avg 60k points they currently offer) as incentive on a new card I might consider it.

Worth a call to AMEX, they seem to be waiving annual fees

Yeah like Thumper says, calling the company to waive fees is an option.

I was going to go to Boston for Labor Day to see Rammstein, but the band cancelled which I'm pleased about, as I would have chosen not to go anyways. I'm hopeful that camping semi-locally will be an option this summer. We wanted to do a big Mediterrannean trip this fall, but I switched jobs so that's off the table this year anyways. Now looking at Maui next Feb/March.

Yeah I'm planning to see if retention has anything for me. I think the next one is due July or August so I'll see.

That is pretty optimistic I think (hope I am wrong).

We do Hawaii 2-3/year and I am thinking it might not be until 2022 before we get back there.

I suspect that as long as they can keep cases down in Hawaii, people from CONUS won't be welcome for a while.

Is this the place to report on COVID related current travel?

Yesterday we flew Nur-Sultan - Frankfurt - IAD - LAX and saw how airplanes gradually filled up, COVID distancing rules became more lax and passengers less observant. In the U.S. no one's following instructions, practicing social distance, etc.

Our return was due to a family emergency, otherwise we wouldn't have put ourselves through that. Don't fly unless you have to.

Previously scheduled personal trips (bachelor party in April, wedding in June) - cancelled.
Previously scheduled work trip (Orlando - professional society meeting) - cancelled.

Not planning to take any personal trips this year. This includes visiting parents (who live in FL) or sister (lives in California).

Most people know Full_Clip's work situation, but for those that don't - physician in NYC. The youngest person that Full_Clip took care of that died of Covid-19 related complications (likely DIC) was 37 years old.

Don't take any additional risk that you don't need to take.

My work involves me traveling about 95% by car, so I'm good with travel...airline travel? Ehhhhhh....we'll see when that becomes 'normal' (as well as safe) again.

I am surprised by the number of people not wearing a mask at the airport. Not surprisingly though, they usually fit into one of two groups.

We're not allowing anyone to board unless they are wearing a mask and they must keep it on the entire flight. Obviously you can take it off to eat your cheez-its.

I see your cheezi-its but would like instead a small package of Biscoffs.
I would also like a package of honey roasted nuts, and one can of Sprite with a cup and no ice.

I was talking with crew members the other day; we don't service any mainlines. They indicated they aren't even doing beverage service. Are you all doing anything?

Still haven't cancelled my flights to/from Norway to visit family in July, but I'm thinking there's a <2% chance we'll be able to go. Not so much because of conditions there (which are normalizing), but due to conditions here.

British Airways allows you to cancel for a full value travel voucher good through 2022, so I'm assuming that's what we'll have and then aim for next year hopefully. Downside being that our earnings will be less than half of current next year, so while flights have been paid for, we wouldn't have the same freedom to spend as we would have this year.

I also have cousins I haven't seen for a decade now, and immediate family I haven't seen since 2014, my grandmother is getting old enough that I doubt I'll actually see her again at this point.

Actually, the packs we are giving out has Biscoffs and cheez-its (with a bottle of water and Purell hand wipes). You're welcome.

Correct, no beverage service, no coffee. Just the small bottles of water. No indication when that's going to change either. I do know Skyclubs are open again

Trust me, we live on caffeine and not having any on the aircraft sucks.

Is Norway even going to let Americans in the country without some form of mandatory quarratine first? Just wondering.

My general impression is the remainder of 2020 will be a lousy year for US passport holders to travel overseas (i.e. Nobody wants us to enter their country)

I think every other single country in the World should absolutely restrict anyone coming from the US to a mandatory 14-day lockdown.

I feel for you all. We've tried to look out for the crew folks as much as possible here, but I know it still sucks (here and most places).

That much is unclear, as of right now, no they won't without a 14 day quarantine, that could theoretically still be doable as my moms house isn't the worst place to hang at for 14 days, but it would eat up over half of our vacation.

Our jobs also has a 14 day quarantine for personal travel though, so if we're in any way back to working in office, I'd basically be fired since I wouldn't have the PTO to cover it.

So yeah, unless there's some pretty dramatic shift before then, it's not going to happen. I'll find out more about work end of this month and I imagine I'll have to cancel the flights around the first week of June.

this is somewhat comprehensive.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/08/t...ngs-virus.html

they all pretty much say '2 week quarantine', when they allow you in the country, but there are some pretty strict regulations on when they will allow you in the country.

Italy for example:
Quote:
Travelers from the United States have not been explicitly banned, but travelers must prove that they are "returning to their residence or entering the country for justifiable work reasons, special needs or health emergencies."
