Teslaautodriverextremeer problems.

It’s totally not designed for such roads now, and I am going out on a limb to suggest that when Elon pronounces it “feature complete” it still won’t handle getting me to the slopes hands free.

That’s my dream. Uber Ski only cheaper per use, without waiting, and without the possibility no one gives you a ride home.

Default Vehicle suggestions for shikataganai (CN: Bought a ****in' Pacifica)

A quick exercise in arithmetic:

Nissan LEAF SL PLUS (chosen because that’s the trim you need to get ProPILOT):

Quote:
$42,550 + $895 destination - $7,500 Federal tax credit - $5,000 CO tax credit == $30,945 + TTL on the full $43.5k, so $34,420.

For that you get a Mobileye driver assist system less effective than Autopilot, FWD, hatchback, 0-60 around 7 seconds. 100 kW fast charging, but CHAdeMO so not super common. 226 mile rated range. Leather inside and heated seats and steering wheel.
Tesla Model 3 Standard + AP:

Quote:
$35,000 + $3,000 for AP + $1200 destination - $3,750 Federal tax credit - $5,000 CO tax credit == $29,250 + TTL on the full $38k, so $32,290. Kicking that to a Standard Plus + AP takes the net cost to $34,450.

So warm-weather states can have a net cost of $2k less, and cold-weather states can get their precious heated seats (and power-adjusting pleather instead of manually adjusting cloth) for the same net price as the LEAF. 0-60 in 5.6 or 5.3 for the Standard or Standard Plus variants, RWD, a more capable (but certainly not perfect) driver assist system, 125 kW Supercharging, 220/240 mile range.
Unless one lives in a Tesla service desert, really needs a (small) hatchback over a sedan, or has some vendetta against Tesla I can’t see why anyone would pick a LEAF PLUS over a Model 3 at this point.

A hatchback is more useful, it doesn't have a central do everything screen and I'd venture much better build quality. I'd choose the Leaf (or Bolt for that matter)

Interesting. I see your point about the polarizing interface, but apart from my (still not fixed) wobbly seatback on the driver's seat I haven't had any of the issues plaguing others (glass cracking, paint, bumper covers falling off).

The LEAF has a deep but shallow front to back hatch. A double stroller would fill it up completely. Such a double stroller would fit in the 3's trunk with a little room to spare and there'd still be the frunk for extra junk. For truly oversize items, sure, but a LEAF is not big enough to fit a bike inside anyway without pulling both wheels***8230;

I know it’s not as comfortable and of course a person of your stature would never do this but the shuttles to/from the mountains would get you there without touching a steering wheel also.

I considered this when I was trying to piece out whether I could get by without a 2nd car. The problem is that they pick up and drop off at the airport, which would add ~45 min on either end of the already-long day. Not really practical for day tripping.

They also seem centered on the Vail market, for better or worse.

Mercedes Concept EQV unveiled (as opposed to the V Class photos + one photoshopped shot I posted a page or three back):

https://insideevs.com/mercedes-benz-...e-concept-mpv/ among other coverage. 100 kWh pack (!) yielding 249 miles of range. 201 hp, FWD. Unspecified quick charging capability is present, presumably CCS ~150 kW or so given the time quoted.

I, or rather my wife, could definitely dig it as a non-Model X replacement for the PacHy.

Oh its a mini van.
Based on the original pix, I thought it was like a 10-12 people carrier

That could make a good replacement indeed.

That thing looks enormous for a minivan. But, this is America and we all need a 21 foot long rolling anvil to drive our few kids to the zoo.

It's Euro style, minivans there are generally passenger versions of work vans. MB, Hyundai, Toyota, BMW, VW etc all have them in the Euro market

It does have a honkin’ big forehead, eh?

Per Mercedes’ International site on the V Class:

https://www.mercedes-benz.com/en/mer...dan-with-star/

Quote:
The V-Class is available in three lengths: compact (4895 mm), long (5140 mm) and extra-long (5370 mm).
From some other sites it looks like the “long” length is the standard.

Quote:
Overall height: 1880mm
Overall length: 5140mm
Overall width: 1928mm
Ground clearance unladen: 133mm
Wheelbase: 3200mm
Kerb weight: 2145kg
Turning circle: 11.8m
That’d be 74” tall, 202” long, 75.9” width.

For comparison, her PacHy is 69.9” tall, 203.6” long, 79.6” wide.

Because giving vehicle dimensions in mm is very easy to visualize.

CM sure... and yes I can divide by 10... but that's not the point.

It'd be like me saying here in America, we traveled 15157486080 inches to the moon

Maybe I should mention the Mercedes van to my neighbor. Their $150k Tesla Model X has been in the shop 5 times now for eating axles. I've been encouraging them to pursue the lemon law since they're just looking to get their money back.

FCA introduces Compass and Renegade PHEVs.

https://www.allpar.com/news/2019/03/...eal-eawd-43999

While these particular platforms are not of interest to me their powertrains are.

They seem to have a gas engine and standard transmission hooked to the front axle, and an independent electric setup for the rear axle, battery in transmission tunnel. No propshaft or other connection between axles.

So in its 31 mile EV range it’s a RWD vehicle. AWD via software coordination.

An interesting approach, and one that might see life in a PacHy in the future, albeit maybe with the front still via the 2 motor Toyota/TRW design.

That’s crazy. I’d definitely go Lemon Law.

Also note that the production Merc will be unveiled in Sept and may well end up being Euro only at first if not indefinitely. We don’t even get gas/diesel V Klasses, only the work van Metris.

That Jeep setup would make perfect sense for Subaru. Hell, could even have the two motor setup. Pancake motor in the bellhousing aiding the gas engine. Rear E-motor acting on a normal diff. Batteries in the space formerly occupied by the driveshaft. That's a nice 6"x6"x48" tunnel down low.

That seems like a really short range. Especially for anything out West. In the cold, you're looking at closer to a 15 mile range. I think most people's daily commute is longer than that. At that short of range, it's just basically a gas car. I'd rather Corolla.

The wife’s PacHy has about that range and we do at least 75% mileage in electric mode. Probably will inch higher than that come summer, too.

I'm not the norm from what I remember but I would drive this. Boxy vehicles for the win. I don't like the price tag of Mercedes $$$$ though.
