some FFp scopes have a barely visible reticle at low power.

If you are hunting with it. buy a sfp scope. illuminated if possible. if you want to range stuff, buy a laser range finder at a later date.
Difference in FFP, and SFP is the ratio of the reticle to the power of magnification. A FFP can be used at any power accurately, while you usually need to be at the highest magnification for the SFP to be accurate (usually). I've ranged with reticules before, I'd just rather use a laser, as I'm great with mil dots. Though having the option is nice when shooting in the boonies and not on the known distance range.
So... I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think I need a FFP scope, and I'm definitely not paying extra for the feature.

you can get much nicer lenses for a lower price if you go SFP.

Check out that primary arms scope for your price range. Its pretty solid.

Beware of ranging with some of the sfp scopes though. more and more have a wacky power setting for ranging. you kind of have to read the manual and remember.

I got into using FFP scope because i'd rather put the $400 bucks that i'd spend on a 500+ yard range finder into the glass and use a calculator.

Plenty of inexpensive range finders that do 500 yards max... not so much for ones that do 800 yards + reliably.

So out of those three, you'd go with the vortex? I'm not real hot on the PA reticle.

I would. I think the vortex will have the clearest glass for that price range.

One thing to note though.. I didn't catch whether the vortex had an exposed turret or a capped turret.

I kind of hate capped turrets, although for hunting they make sense, so you don't bump the scope and end up 4 feet off.

not to add more opinions to your selection but I picked up a redfield for my bolt action that has a reticle I like (accurange) plus once it is zero'd at 200 has hold overs for up to 500 yards.

I have the opportunity to buy $275 Bulgarian AKs. It's a comedy of alleged circumstances so we'll see.

If they're Arsenal, I'll be buying more than 3.

Vortex makes a fantastic scope. I have a Viper PST FFP and I love it to death.

The warranty is FANTASTIC as well. Mine took a 6ft header after the scope mount broke right on to the ground while shooting it (my old Remington 700 AICS .300WM build, that thing ate scope mounts like crazy). Everything seemed OK but it was dusty. Sent it in no questions asked and they cleaned it good as new and checked everything to make sure it was good. 100% awesome all the way.

Just waiting on my EGW base and I'll be able to mount the scope (PA 4-14 ffp mil) on my Savage.

I would stop posting openly and discuss through other channels - buying firearms with the intention of selling them is a no-no.

I don't recall, but was the link to a 10rd mag version? He must have figured that the low-cap mag meant Kentucky GunCo was in CA or something...twas odd for sure.

I didn't put a link, but KYGunCo does sell the Cali version and the normal version. NFC about a brace or why selling a Cali-compliant firearm would mean a shop is located in Cali.

I got to fondle a scorpion evo at the range on saturday.. I'm pretty glad that I opted to go MP5K clone instead.

It made me feel kind of goofy messing with it with an adapter and a sig brace.

I actually have a kak tube and a gen 1 sig brace sitting in my parts bin.

If anyone wants it, terms can be worked out. It'll never go on another gun of mine.

Plus the scorp felt pretty cheap. I usually like CZ stuff, just not that.

The super sabra and the aimpoint that I got for my tavor came today... now the wait seems more painful since i have parts waiting for it.

I also got my " to hell and back" duracoat kit today. I'm going to "distress" one of my SBRs and see how it looks. Worst case, I hate it and end up stripping it and having ceracoted. Best case it looks super sweet and i do it to another gun too.

Finally unloaded my Vita, and due to all the recent purchases need a bigger/better range bag. Love this idea and the comments are all favorable...bueller?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A5C17GO
They have an even sweeter one that is tactical but only holds 3 handguns.

Ideally I'd find one that could hold five guns, but that doesn't seem to exist.

I have the Tactical one that holds 3 handguns and noticed at Steel Challenge this weekend that about 3-4 other guys had the FDE Tactical model; popular in some circles I guess. The cases for the handguns themselves are kinda meh...not fitting more than 1-2 mags at most with a double stack pistols and getting the gun into/out of the interior pocket requires folding down the zippered edge. I like it, certainly, but it has its annoyances. The regular model may be nicer in that regard.
