I haven't watched the live action yet, but the fighting is one thing I've heard a lot about. The animated Spike Spiegel has such a nonchalant confidence in whatever he's doing that makes him one of the smoothest characters in anything. I can't see it transitioning to live action well since the flowing nature of the animation captures it perfectly and I've been reading that John Cho is lacking any of this smoothness.

It's forgettable. I've watched 3 eps so far and get the feeling I could forget I'm even watching the series until years later scrolling through things to watch I think "that looks interesting" and find I've already watched the first 3 eps, "ah, right."

I finished the anime last week and went right into the live action series. It took me around three weeks to watch all of the anime, but I turned the live action off as it was nearly a play by play rehash of the anime. I know that is what it is supposed to be, but I felt that I had already watched this a few weeks ago. I will try it again soon.

Re-watched Witcher, in preparation of Season 2 coming in a few days.
That show is so damn good, it got me to re-install Witcher 3 on my PC.

Few documentaries over the weekend:

14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible
Absolutely insane documentary about a Nepalese mountain climber attempting a ridiculous record. It is a very nicely produced film. Very emotional and inspirational. The footage is stunning and the massive scale of the achievement is pretty hard to get your mind around.
Highly recommended if you enjoy a good doc.

The other one I watched was The Alpinist.
If you enjoyed Free Solo, watch this one. It even features interviews with the star of Free Solo - Alex Honnold commenting on how insane the subject of The Alpinist - Marc-Andre Leclerc is*.
I have no idea why I enjoy these documentaries so much, since the entire time I am watching, my palms are dripping with sweat. It is utterly mesmerizing though.

Finally got around to watch The Social Dilemma, the effect of which turned my paranoia and pessimism to a solid 11.
To top it off, I also listened to the JRE podcast with Tristan Harris on the same subject and we are very firmly in the we-are-so-f***ed-territory.

I upgraded Netflix to the overpriced Ultra HD quality, because reasons. I watched Episode 3 of Season 3 of Lost In Space. Looks pretty good! Not sure if it's worth it, but I'll give it a bit of time and see what happens.

Just watched this too. The guy is a total badass - former Gurka and SBS soldier, goes on to bag Everest and K2 as if it were a casual weekend hike.

If you like nature shows, it's worth the HDR for the animals/scenery.

Also (re)watch Altered Carbon season 1 in 4k HDR, they made a lot of very good use of it.

Ah, thanks. Good suggestions, especially since I never watched Altered Carbon. I do love me the nature docs tho. I'll take any and all other suggestions of beautiful things to watch.

I can't wait for season 2. Apparently Henry Cavill fought to make Geralt more like he is in the books. He's pretty chatty and a thoughtful philosopher instead of just grunting and muttering "****" like season 1.

That first season looked fantastic in Dolby Vision. It was very much worth the price.

I wish I enjoyed The Witcher as much as most of you. I really can't stand Cavill's performance as Geralt. Then again. I've never read the books, and I didn't much care for the first 2 games. Loved 3, though.

I watched the first episode of Voir last night. It's basically a video essay about Jaws and how it influenced one woman as a 10 year old girl and how it changed movies forever. The other ones use different narrators and touch on other aspects of movies and television. The great thing is they are very short, the longest being 23 minutes.

Sounds kinda like "The movies that made us" but a bit more serious?

I watched the Japanese gangster-ish action-comedy Fable and Fable 2. They were OK - definitely has the oddball Japanese humour. Part 2 was better than 1 (more budget!), but I liked the premise and some of the action sequences were pretty cool. I wish they had done more with his assistant chick though.

I watched couple of VOIR episodes last night. (Jaws and Revenge)
It was really good. Outstanding really.

I also thought it would be a "The movies that made us"-type of show, but it is not. At all.
The show has nothing to do with the making or behind the scenes of the movies.
Each episode is a personal essay and introspective look at how the movie affected the narrator's life and outlook.

Highly recommended and like Mr.Sparkle mentioned, the eps are very short and easily digestible.

I started VOIR last night as well. Revenge was great - I recognized Tony's voice immediately, he has a great Youtube series on movies, example: Jackie Chan - How to Do Action Comedy

Jaws on the other hand, was too much about the narrator (her life, growing up, etc) and not enough about Jaws, or movies in general and so I didn't like it very much.

Well Don't Look Up has critics' - of a certain political leaning - panties in a knot, some of their reviews are funnier (and revealing of the critics themselves) than the movie itself.

My favorite non-partisan review summed up:
Quote:
Replace "comet" with "covid", and the film could be a documentary.
Decent 'light' comedy, nothing to rave about.

Not recommended for 2-3 PPers though...

Yeah as much as I didn't like certain aspects of the show, wish it would have lasted another season.
