Default CrossTrek or Impreza 2022

Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me if I'm better off to get a new 2022 CrossTrek or Impreza? Like are there any pros or cons?

TIA

Heads up, no one is gonna take this seriously without more information on your end.

If one of those two were better than the other, then only one would exist, why would subaru make the worse one since no one would buy it.

Is bigger better? What would the Crosstrek have that the Impreza doesn't? I think it's the same engine but I'd have to look it up. I also believe the Crosstrek is higher off the ground. Is there problems one vs the other? What would you choose?

The Crosstrek has a 6 speed manual while the Impreza is a 5. The Crosstrek's rear brakes are larger. The track in the Crosstrek is wider. The wheels and tires on the Crosstrek are bigger and always alloy without paying for a higher level trim. The Crosstrek's body structure is stiffer. The obvious body stuff is the plastic flares. The Crosstrek has more ground clearance. The Crosstrek only comes as a 5 door. The Impreza as a 5 door or a cheaper 4 door sedan. Research what the sway bars are as it's trim dependent.

They are quite similar. I own a 2013 Crosstrek limited CVT and a 2019 Crosstrek premium 6 speed manual, lowered 1.2 inches on RS-R springs. The new body style (2017 Impreza, 2018 Crosstrek) has enormously bigger wheel wells. So bigger diameter tires can be fitted, where the old style, even a new OEM sized snow tire would rub on a Crosstrek (I know....I have them and they rubbed the first winter I owned the thing). The Crosstrek will cost you more, but there's a lot more of them made and they hold their value better, so in the end, it could cost you less to own the Crosstrek. The bigger tires will cost more to replace, but not all that much. It's not like it has the stupid 19" wheels that the STi has, which in the northeast are guaranteed to get damaged with our crap roads. (son has a 20 STi and has removed all the bent wheels and replaced with 18's).

Why the heck is the impreza a 5 speed with the CT being a 6 speed?

Thanks Jack.
The crosstrek might be actually cheaper. At least the interest rates are lower.
Is stiffer body a good thing? And are there known issues with CVT.

A stiffer body adds to better handling which is somewhat reduced by the fact that the vehicle is raised up.

The CVT back in 2013 had issues. Ours was replaced under warranty at 53k miles. My understanding is that they've fixed the problems, which would make sense as the vast majority of Subarus only come with a CVT. If you're interested in a CVT car, drive one. I only know the old one in our 13 crosstrek and my wife's 17 Legacy. The legacy CVT is dramatically better than the old crosstrek.

I wish I could drive one. Nobody has any and there's no 2022 models yet.
The interest rate is 1.99% on Crosstrek 2021 and 3.49% on Impreza 2022.
I think I want the Impreza, at least I drove it a bit. I would really love to give the Crosstrek a go because of the height clearance and well I don't know what else. But, I'm sure the Touring hatchback Impreza will be satisfactory. Mileage will be better too.

Do some pricing. A friend of my son's bought an Impreza Sport for $24k. I just shook my head. My 19 Crosstrek Premium manual cost me $22k brand new in 2019. The CVT would have been another grand. For every Impreza you find, I would think you'd find 20 Crosstreks during normal times. I know lots are very sparse these days.

In my opinion the Crosstrek is SO much cooler looking than the impreza. I love my WRX so much but if they offered some sort of rally version of the crosstrek I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

I have a 2022 Imprezza and the lower ride height really helps with feeling stuck to the road when taking corners at speed.

If go crosstrek because of the off-road capability. Plus the ride height is a plus. Plus the colors on the crosstrek are interesting. The crosstrek does need a turbo..

Feel free to PM me if you want. With the Covid premiums these days, throw any pricing info from this thread out the window. Everything will be a couple grand more. I've had a dealer offer me $2k more than my full out-the-door price for my 19.
