the rubber is probably all that would deteriorate
if that looks fine I'd use them

+1. I have a bunch of factory filters i bought years ago. They work just fine.

If you're worried, you can apply some water based dressing like Aerospace303 on the seal (or o-ring for other element changing type filters) to prolong the life of the seals. Best thing is to keep it in a sealed bag or box away from sunlight and moisture.

Hard to say anything because we don't know what you mean by " look old ".
How so?

Where did you get them?
- Local shop?
- Some random e-bay seller?
- Dealer?

I had ordered a bunch just to have them around when needed, lasted me well over a year and nothing besides some dust was wrong with them.

Just make sure the rubber seal don't crack off as that would be the first that would "expires." Besides that you are fine. Also make sure there are no dust in the filter.

As said, check the rubber ring in the filter. Feel for hardness. They should be relatively soft and not hard or cracked.

If they are in original boxes / sealed wrapper, dust should not be any kind of issue.

I've stocked up on filters in the past due to low price and used them years later with zero issues.
