Impreza WRX STi [SOLVED] 06 WRX 5MT input shaft stuck in neutral via dual range selector switch

I recently swapped the engine and installed blast plates on my 06 WRX. I removed both the engine and transmission as part of this job. When it was all said and done, my transmission appeared to have been caught in neutral. All gears seemed to engage properly, but the input shaft felt very loose, almost like it had snapped off. Before I inspected the input shaft I thought the clutch was bad. I replaced it and still had issues. After inspecting all of the differentials, driveshaft, etc. and verifying their correct function, I dropped the transmission and began to disassemble it. The transmission WAS NOT the original one that came with this WRX, as it was slightly different from a stock which I had on hand as an extra. I was splitting the case in half, when I was obstructed by this switch.

As I contemplated how to remove, I decided to pull on the switch. I realized that that was the problem! During the process of removing and installing the transmission, the switch got caught in a position that caused it to neutral out the input shaft.

The switch seems to control the synchro/gear selector on this device:

The switch allowed the input shaft to be disabled (neutral) and two other settings which seem to proportion the torque between the front and the rear like some sort of mechanical DCCD. It appears the switch should be connected to a cable or lever in the cabin. Anyone have any insight on this ?

edit: the lever is for a dual range system.
Here is a video I made about this transmission:
