where to buy salvage vehicles?
Does anyone know of anywhere in the Portland area that sells salvage vehicles? I'm looking for a wrecked wrx to swap the drive train out of.

find a small side of the road car sales setup
they get their cars at dealer salvage/wholesale auctions ( you have to have a dealers license to make a purchase) tell them what you're after and they can probably help you this is how I obtained my last 2 rally car donors 1 was a bank repo the other was a salvage.... both were great deals $$$..... copart will be the cheapest but you have to have a business or dealers license to buy vehicles from them.

meh, in all fairness, the "small side of the road" used car guy is at those auctions standing right next to the guys from every major new car dealership as well. you come a little too close to implying that used car dealerships specialize in this sort of thing, when most used car dealerships wont touch salvaged/reconstructed cars with a 10 foot pole being one of those used car guys, i have to fight that sort of stereotype daily. out of our ~250 cars, not one of them are reconstructed, salvaged, or have a branded title in any way. Yet most customers assume that they are all salvaged, usually because someone tells them that used car dealerships buy cars from auctions that sell only reconstructed vehicles. we hear that atleast 5x a day, every day. usually it's their "uncle" who was "in the car business" that told them also, copart auctions sell cars that havent been repaired yet. so if you want to go this route, then you'll need to figure in the cost of repairing a totaled vehicle. your absolute best bet is to watch craigslist, check your local paper, and maybe browse autotrader every once in a while. you can try going through a dealership, but most wont accept the liability of selling a reconstructed vehicle. and the ones that will, i'd be weary of dealing with Last edited by $lick_Rick; 10-13-2007 at 04:57 PM. |

and for some reason, i missed that
copart might actually be perfect for you then. i've only been to one, and that was looking for a gsr to swap everything out of. one problem might be, about 2 years ago, coparts parent company made a new rule that unless you're a buyer on the dealers account, you'er not even allowed out there to look at the cars. so if you decided to peruse that route, you'll need to find a dealer that you trust to inspect the car before he purchases it, and the buyer will probably require the money up front |

Try Fosters they are in your area.
As mentioned before you may want to try to find a buyer that has an account at either Copart or IAA. Just don't be in a hurry, and you will get a good deal. |
