Default Hella horns

so this last weekend I took my bumper off to hook my hella horns up on my 16 wrx. I did not purchase a wire harness for the horns, so I have been youtubing/ researching diy wiring for the horns. and I got the front horn disconnected and my hellas wired up with the included 4prong relay.

The issue im having is figuring out how to diy wire the stock horn harness plug in to the relay that came with the horns. I included a picture of where I believe i need to wire the old horn harness to the relay and just don't know enough to figure out what I need, or if it would be best to just purchase the harness specific to my car?

On the relay i have power cord run to each horn, a ground from each horn to the bolts that my horns are mounted too, i have a ground from the relay to one of the same bolts as the horn ground, and one more wire going from the relay to the positive on my battery.

Do you have a test light? You'll need it to find out which terminal gives power to the relay when the horn button is pushed. Then you can run the right wire from the stock connector to the terminal on the relay. The power from the stock connector should go to the 86 terminal on the relay.

I would've just bought the harness to save the hassle to be honest.

I love it, do i just run a connecter from the hot connector on the stock harness to the last open spot in my relay? I definitely have a light tester. And yes i agree it would be easier to just buy the harness but to be honest I didn't know there was a harness before I ordered the horns. And now I'm realizing that it was way worse to diy haha but I appreciate the help

Yes, run a wire to to connect them.
I guess you'll also need to run a ground to the other connector on the harness.

You did put a fuse on the power wire from the battery, right?

16 WRX should not need a relay to run the Supertones, but you can if you want along with a fuse, but not needed. The current is not that high like air horns where it needs to run a compressor.

I got the wireharness when I did my 19 WRX Limited, but on my 16 STI I forgot to order it so I just made my own harness. For the trigger lead, I used a T-tap and spade connector to hook up to the factory harness. Then branched it out to the 2 horns. I believe the horn housing is already grounded so through the bracket it can get the ground it needs.

If not, no big deal, you can just make another wire with space connector and bolt it to a known ground.

To find which factory horn wire carries the positive lead, you can use your volt meter (in ohm reading) to probe one of the leads and a known ground. If your meter shows a sold "0" then you know you just found the ground wire, so the other wire is your positive.

Hope some of this helps. I've done MANY horn/steering wheel installs over the decades and STI/WRX was no different.

Fortunately it shows you which is positive and negative on the horn and i have the ground running to the back of the bolts holding the horns to the grimmspeed bracket. Im new to this wireing thing but I believe that will work? And also if I do that diy harness for the stock harness like you suggested, you're saying I should only need to run two wires to the two positives and then the grounds and thats it?
And yes very helpful information thank you

Get the wiring harness. They're like $10 on Amazon.
