The normal front wrx axles fit the sti transmission. The rear wrx axles will need the inner cups removed and sti cups installed to snap into the sti R180 rear diff. To do that, you will need the bearing race adapters that Suberdave sells. http://wordpress.suberdave.com/?page_id=275 You will have to also get a set of 04-07 rear sti axles and remove the inner cup to use with your wrx axles.

I have a 95 impreza with normal front and rear axles but 2011 sti transmission and rear differential. I'm using the Suberdave adapter kit for the rear axles.

I have a 2005 WRX with an EJ207. I'm looking to swap in an sti transmission to handle around 400hp but I am on a budget. What would be the best transmission to get without spending too much and without switching the rear differential? There is so much information in this thread and it is hard to understand it all. Any help would be great thank you

*The following only applies to 02-05 WRXs*

I just did this. I made a spreadsheet to track everything. It's still not very cheap. YMMV

The key is to use an 06 or 07 STi transmission with an automatic driveshaft, then you can keep your R160. Not sure about the front axles on an 05, if they are currently female axles you'll have to use the axle stubs, seals, and circlips listed above. If they're male axles, I have no idea if they work.

P/N: TY856WW7MA 2006 STi transmission
P/N: TY856WW8MA 2007 STi transmission

I have a 2005 wrx. Theres a great deal locally on a jdm 6 speed ver. 7 transmission. E3-TY856WB1CA that’s the tranny code but it only comes with r180, 4 axles, and driveshaft. Will I need to convert my hubs and knuckles or will this fit in to my stock 5x100 set up. According to the seller it’ll fit in with all my stock setup including brakes. It seems too good to be true. Any one have any experience with the ver 7 swap?

So is there anyone here that’s good with 6 speed swaps in a 2010 wrx? I’ve run into a issue with mine and can’t figure it out for the life of me

I apologize if this specific issue has been covered somewhere but I can't find any information on it.

I've swapped an 08 STi MT6 into my 08 OBXT. I've also installed a Spiider Plus DCCD Controller from @DCCDPro.

Everything works great until I tap the two "Rear ABS Sensor" wires from the Spiider Plus into the rear abs speed sensor wires on the car.

Once I the tap the rear ABS speed sensor wires and start the car, the following lights come on:
- Check Engine Light (CEL),
- ABS light,
- the light that indicates Traction Control is not on...
And of course the cruise control light flashes slowly.

I was having the same issue with the Front ABS Sensor wires but I switched the polarity of the wires and I no longer have an issue with the front.

Hoping this would also fix the rear I switched the polarity of the Rear ABS Sensor wires, but it did not fix the problem.

Can anyone provide help with this?

For what it's worth, I'm taping into the car's right rear abs speed sensor wires under the rear passenger seat. The wires (under the car) coming from the sensor are black and white. At the plug under the car, black changes to pink and white changes to blue. (I have checked and rechecked this to make sure.) The blue and pink (twisted) wires go into cabin under the rear seat. This is where I tapped into them (see photos).

Like I said if tried both polarities:
black Spiider wire to pink on car (black at sensor) and white Spiider wire to blue on car (white at sensor), and the opposite way. And in both cases it causes the CEL light, etc come on.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Trying to find information on more recent 6MTs.

Looking at an 04 wagon with a 2012 sti 6mt in it. The speed sensor isnt hooked up so there is no speedo working. There is also no DCCD controller so im assuming its just defaulting to the 49/51 or whatever ratio is for 2012.

Would any of this be hard to fix or make work with an 04? I'm trying to figure out since it was swapped and the r160 is still in it if the ratios even match or if its a time bomb.
Any help appreciated.

There is no speedo gear on the 2012 6mt, so you'll have to add an aftermarket wheel speed sensor if you want the speedo to work (mapdccd or vsspro).

The center diff will operate at it's "default" amount of slip. Contrary to popular belief, the DCCD does not change the front:rear torque bias. It's an electromechanical adjustment to the lsd clutch that limits slip between front and rear. The DCCD controller allows you to decrease the allowed slip, in other words make it closer to locked. Without the controller, it is still a LSD - it does not become an open diff - it just can't be adjusted to be more limited.

For gear ratios I'm not positive. I have an 09 6mt in an 02 wrx with the stock r160. Subaru couldn't make up their mind on gear ratios and they change by year though. Check cars101.com.

What would be involved in swapping an STi 6MT into a 6MT WRX (2015+)? Would a STi rear diff be required as well? Also, how could one reprogram the ECU to correctly determine what gear you were in?

I’ve seen the post before but now I can’t find it when I’m searching.

I have an 05 usdm wrx, with a jdm v7 6 speed swap B1CA. I’m using the stock axles front and rear wrx axles, STi driveshaft and R180. Everything is bolted in and mated “fine”, the front rotates and no issues there. The car moves under power, the driveshaft spins freely. The rear diff is not engaging the rear axles. The rear axles are not moving at all. Now I read the ej207 swaps threads over and over because I believe that’s where I found the cause and fix for the issue, but I can’t find it now. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Does it sound like the R180 missing the pinion gear? Is the R180 rejecting the 05 wrx axles even though the bolt up? I’m just trying to get this thing back on the road as my trans grenanded. Thanks in advanced guys!

The wrx rear axles might go into the The R180 but they have a different spline count and will not work.
You need LGT SPEC B AXLES or Turbo mikes conversion kits. Or use sti rear axles but if you don't use a conversion kit you will need to use sti rear hubs and brembos 2pots.

This is what you need: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=2048240

http://wordpress.suberdave.com/

Suberdave sells the adapters on his site. He gives you the race that allows you to keep your wrx axles and swap the inner cups with r180 cups that mate with the trans. You have to get a set of 04-07 sti rear axles and use the inner cups with the adapter races and your axles. He just has to know the number of splines on the inner end so he can sell you the correct race kit. Not difficult, you just have to remove the inner cups to count the splines before ordering, so the car will be down until you install the new parts.

I have a 95 impreza with normal rear knuckles, hubs, and axles and I run a 2011 sti r180 and transmission. My center carbon driveshaft is a DSS for the 93-01, a little longer than the 02-07 wrx version. My front axles are normal 02-07 wagon wrx axles and mate with the 6mt and the 95 knuckles. Just had to tap the abs rings off the outer ends because my car has no abs or room for the rings.

Hopefully you didn't screw anything up in the rear diff with the wrx axles not engaging the splines correctly. I've never tried so can't be sure exactly what happens.

Just realized I already linked the thread for the adapters about 11 posts up, lol.

Now I'm not sure how active this thread is anymore, but I've run into some issues on my 6-speed swap. I've got a 2012 wrx widebody with the "V8 jdmi sti" transmission, r180, and driveshaft. The issue I have run into is the axels and driveshaft are too short to fit into my wrx hubs. The driveshaft is also to short to fit my question is what are my options moving forward for the axels and driveshaft?

You need the axles and driveshaft for your model year sti.

v8 (2004/2005) and 2012 should have been the answer right away. Those axles arent meant for your car. You need GR body sti axles.

First the R160 and R180 rear mounting points are spaced evenly and even use the same studs. I reused my rear sub frame and rear differential mount bracket. They worked fine.

Second you can't switch the rear yoke on the drive shaft from WRX to STi shafts the U joints on the STi shafts are much larger.

Third you can reuse the entire e-brake assembly including the cables from your WRX. The only difference between the two is that the STi e-brake handle has red stitching. You must, as you said, use the R180 hubs for this method.

Great post though I'm sure this will help out a lot of people.

I vote sticky

I just completed a 6-Speed swap in my 2004 WRX. Everything went smooth except I have developed a loud noise coming from the transmission/clutch area. I hear a loud ticking noise when the car is in neutral at idle and while driving in gear. The noise goes away once the clutch pedal is pressed. The clutch pedal also vibrates a lot which I find interesting.

From my research online it appears my input shaft bearing could be bad. I'm hoping that is not the issue. If it is, then so be it. But for the sake of argument, could it be the clutch fork? I used the 6mt fork with my 5-speed clutch and flywheel. I also switched out the 5mt slave cylinder for the 6mt one. Just throwing around ideas.

Thank you!

04 6speed swap
Everything went in as mentioned (thanks guys for all your descriptions) Car shifts through all the gears eng off
Starts right up clutch in engine goes through all gears. As I release clutch it slowly creeps only on flat surface. No power. I can also put in any gear without engine stalling. When up in air only front tires spin. Also in any gear I can roll the car by pushing with some drag. Can anyone help me?
