Boring at the front again - not counting the spin. Sainz just can't catch a break. Same with Bottas.

Obviously glad to see Red Bull out in front. It would be cool to see Mercedes get some things settled and turn the front into a three-way fight.

The mid-pack (what even is that right now?!) is wild.

Should be an entertaining season for sure.

Riccardo bad luck with the car.
Sainz really needs to believe in himself and be calm/cool.

I have not watched any of the support races but it doesn't seem like there are too many places to pass.

I am however stoked that there is a Miami GP, I hope to attend next year. Hopefully less crowds as this is the inaugural year.

I watched the W-series race.

It looked pretty good for passing opportunities. One thing that helped is that the W-cars are a lot narrower than F1 cars. That made for more side-by-side possibilities, even in some of the twisty stuff.

For F1, DRS is going to be huge here. It'll be interesting to see what kind of "Who got to the DRS line first?" games are played.

The Red Bull has good top speed, hope the Ferrari's can keep Max (cry baby) at bay.

Things got interesting after the SC.

Max holds off Leclerc.
Bottas had a good run but chokes to both Mercedes
Good run by Russell,Ocon.
Shuey Jr had points but collided with Vettel.
Two cars collided on track and they called a VSC for 2 min. Should of been a SC right away.

Pirelli football helmets ?
I thought the Austin cowboy hats were bad enough.
What are they going to do for Las Vegas?
Oh great,spaghetti confetti!

Max was winded, these guys did not expect such a physical race. The circuit kicked their arse. And most are supposed to be in top fitness.

Bottas ran wide and on to the marbles. He gave away his position. Shame really.

Great placement for Russel considering where he qualified. Ocon, yes he's finding his rhythm.

Mick, sigh, another round gone.

Agreed, the SC should have been deployed as soon as VSC was enabled. It's a tight circuit, no need to put others at risk once there is an incident. Gut instinct says some drastic changes will be made to the circuit, for safety and drivability. I also think the shoddy surface will be replaced with legitimate asphalt otherwise this will become a hated circuit very quickly.

I like the Texas hats, the helmets though.. Yeah a bit too NFL'ish. Must have said at least 100 times "there have been 6 super bowls here." Yeah I don't care.

The plastic string confetti was a dumb idea, it was getting caught in the drivers hands, feet. Paper would have been much better to be honest.

Gut instinct says crowds will be smaller next year.

Default Mercedes updates

One part of the updates that Mercedes brought to Miami was a new endplate for the front wing.

The on-board view from Russell's car showed a large part of the left wing half.
It looked to me that the wing flaps were deflecting 2-3" between high and low speeds.

Isn't there a rule about maximum allowed deflection of the wings?

I know there was a large argument last year about both front and rear wing deflection. Have the rules changed with the new cars?

So the front cars are most likely to win
Good job by Haas despite not bringing updates.

I don't know how many times Ferrari have thrown away a probable victory because of strategy, just in the recent years 2017-2019. Or the previous time their car was competitive in 2012 when they told Alonso not to pit and continue driving around on a front wing that was dragging on the ground, which he inevitably wound up driving on top of and off track into retirement.
I know this isn't the Todt/Brawn braintrust running the prancing horses anymore, but would at least think they would have split their strategy between drivers with all the uncertainty. Like I get boxing LeClerc for intermediates and keeping Sainz out, but LeCerc still had track position over Verstappen after the first round of stops so should have kept him matched to what Verstappen was doing.
Why do they always shoot themselves in the foot.

Bernie once called them Spaghetti Heads.

Absolutely right. This has going on for years now.
I remember Vettel was yelling at them many times over the radio over pit strategy.
