ok, I don't want to lose my customer. As long as I know he is still offering this harness.

I think it took him 5 days to get back to me, but then everything moves fast. The part is awesome. He seems to be a solid guy too

It took him almost a week to get back to me, too. But I agree with dcon9999: he's good, and so is his work.

Could you install one of these in a 2013 impreza hatchback?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wireless-...QAAOSw~bFWKZwD

I know it says sedan but I was wondering if it could be modified to fit?

Yes, from the look of it it would fit. I'd recommend going with a camera that has been tested by members here which would be about the same price. Just my 2 cents

I don't have experience with the wireless type of camera. Just by looking at it, I don't see any reason it couldn't be made to work unless the video signal would not be compatible with your Impreza's HU.

Are you in Australia? Maybe the HU would need a PAL signal, whereas this camera puts out an NTSC (US & Canada) signal.

Since this unit replaces the registration plate light on the Sedan, you need to measure that on your hatchback --maybe take out the light and see if the 78mm-spread of the holes on the camera line up with actual holes in your hatchback.

I ditto dcon9999's comment tho --unless you're installing a camera that one of us has already done, our advice is just guesswork.

What head unit are you using? How does night time look? Built in parking lines or using head units?

ty. So...I have the CM631UD head unit, have an aftermarket camera and the harness. I can only get the camera to show when I have it tapped into ACC or IGN in diagnostic mode. Assuming I have to tap that wire into the reverse signal? What color is it? I feel dumb. Aftermarket ones are way easier than OEM ones apparently. LOL

Also,it's a base model 2012 Impreza sedan. I have kids and don't want to run them over. I also want to be able to do this for my sister as she also owns a 2012 base model sedan.

So you've got two things going on here. Did you pick up the adapter from SVX? Basically, the reverse signal is just telling your radio to turn on the camera. your camera will always be powered on. That's why you can go into diagnostic mode when you're not in reverse and see the picture. If you're not using the svx adapter, You may need to run your 12-volt positive lead to an ACC fuse on your fuse block. Others have connected it to a rear backup light since your white backup lights only turn on when you're in reverse.

When I had mine wired to my CM635U1, I grounded my camera locally in my hatch and then the RCA cable that plugged into SVX's adapter actually sent it positive power.

Reply back on whether you have the adapter and let's go from there

I do have AN adapter that I purchased from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just heard back from David Carter "SVXdc" today. If the one I got from Amazon is not the right one I will buy a couple from him.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

^^ that is the camera I purchased.

Basically trying to figure out why the reverse signal is NOT tripping my camera to pop on and that I can only see it with audio off, holding #6 button and rotating the knob to get into the diagnostic mode

Gotcha. Camera looks to be 12v, So you will need to power it separately. I ultimately took out the Forester head unit couple years ago and just replaced with a pioneer mvh-2300nex. Let me take a look though and see if I can find my connection to my reverse light tomorrow send you some pictures

got you. Yeah, not familiar with that particular diagnostic screen, but it seems like the reverse signal is definitely lacking. I'm not familiar with that Amazon adapter, but looks very similar to the SVX adapter, so I'd assume it's not the adapter. I'm actually getting my car inspected today so I can't take a look during a lunch break or something but I will try to look tomorrow and send a picture of where I have it connected. If you haven't connected in the same spot, I would assume it's either the pin on the back of your radio that's no good or the adapter

In the meantime, take a look here... Go back a few pages, I think SVX summarized a lot of info on the page prior to this one.

Reverse line tapped Into. Again, this is onder the passenger right side kick panel.

Can text or email the pics if more helpful than old school photobucket

Awesome. Can I tie into it from the top part of the harness? That same color wire is in the dash.

Now...maybe a dumb question...do I run that to the trigger wire on the RCA or do I run it to the power on the cam?

I would not assume that it is the same wire up in your dash at the radio. I would tap in in the bottom right corner there. There are tons of wires in that car and they're not all unique colors.

Related to what to tap into it, I'm not sure I exactly remember. I think it connected to the rear camera harness, not the camera itself. essentially, this wire just triggers your radio to change to backup camera. So for example, when you get in your car and you start it, your radio, Spotify, bluetooth music, etc turns on. When you put the car into reverse your radio has no idea of knowing that you're in reverse because it's still just getting a regular 12-volt feed. So, this wire tells the radio that you're in reverse so that it can change to backup camera mode and you'll see your camera. Your camera is always on, it's just changing the channel to backup mode.

Aftermarket HUs seem so much easier....I've done several of those before.lol. I feel like I am learning all over again trying to get an OEM HU to work with an aftermarket cam! AHHHHHH!!!

Oh for sure. Grab yourself a nice pioneer nex system complete with Android Auto or CarPlay. After having Bluetooth issues on my Forester head unit with my phone, my switch to an MVH2300 nex was a godsend. Grabbing a DMH 1500 nex for my wife's CRV next month

+1

after enjoying the backup camera using the SVX adapter for 7 years, last year, i swapped out my head unit (limited) for a Pioneer 4500NEX. it was worth every penny to have wireless CarPlay added to the radio, not to mention the SD card slot where i put in a 256gb card worth of music.

This is just not working. Maybe the adapter I got is bunk? I just made a video of the camera working in diagnostic mode but not in regular mode. I tapped into the reverse line with the red trigger wire from the RCA...the stupid headunit is not detecting that it is put into reverse.
