Agreed. It has a very grown up gentleman look about it. I no longer think upscale hair dresser.

I would own one if I could get an optional factory LSD. I don’t believe it has an electronic lsd, just an open 1 way, right? I could be wrong.

It has an LSD if you get the M Sport version with the Track Package.

$55k for the M Sport plus the track package with the 4cyl. Throw in your choice of interior color, wheel color, and exterior color and it hits about $58k.

Sounds expensive, but cheaper than the Boxster, TTS, C43 and S209

The high output B58 is no joke. According to C&D testing;

Zero to 60 mph: 3.8 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 4.5 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 12.3 sec @ 116 mph

To put things into perspective even with the most aggressive launch possible a new STI can't match the m40i's 5-60 mph roll time. A 116 mph trap speed is not too shabby either.

Soon EU will mandate "Cow catchers" device to catch pedestrians who don't know how to cross roads. Lexus has already well prepared for this facade grille.

BMW insists its customers love the new enormous grilles

This is crucial for success. BMW customers are demanding

Quote:
As BMW's grille grows, so does the number of people whose opinion it splits. Top officials previously defended the move to a polarizing design, and they again stressed they're sticking to it.

Recent additions to the company's range, like the X7 and the facelifted 7 Series, raised more than a few eyebrows when they broke cover because they wore an unusually big interpretation of the emblematic twin-kidney grille. The Concept 4 Series Coupe (above) unveiled during the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show shook the internet like an apple tree by taking this styling cue to the next level. BMW explained it took a bolder, more controversial approach to design by popular demand.

"This is crucial for success. BMW customers are demanding. They want to express something, and are not afraid of vehicles with strong characters. They are looking for it. So, we have decided to focus even more on strong characters and bold designs," explained Peter Henrich, BMW's senior vice president of product management, in an interview with British magazine Autocar.

In other words: the big grille stays. Recent spy shots (below) strongly suggest the next-generation 4 Series will arrive in showroom looking a lot like the aforementioned concept unveiled in Germany.

Why not grille mounted jump seats to gently catch the pedestrians? Theyd fit....

I had recently read an article that stated "in a bid to save money" BMW was looking to move to refreshing models with a 7 year cycle instead of the current 5. All I can say is bring on bugs bunny. Eh what's up doc!

Default 2021 BMW 4 Series Entering Final Testing Phase, Is More Agile Than 3 Series

Quote:
2021 BMW 4 Series Entering Final Testing Phase, Is More Agile Than 3 Series

The wait for the all-new BMW 4-Series is almost over as the automaker has announced the model has entered the final phase of testing and released a new photo gallery of a camouflaged prototype.

Engineers are now putting the final touches to the chassis technology on the country roads and motorways surrounding the BMW Group’s Research and Innovation Centre in Munich.

After being assessed at the winter testing center in Arjeplog, Sweden, at the BMW Group’s test centre in Miramas in France, on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit, and at various other race tracks, the prototypes are now returning to their roots.

BMW promises the 4 Series Coupe’s chassis technology is a more individual composition than ever before, with the chassis set-up focused on “exhilarating driving performance.” Compared to the 3 Series Sedan it’s derived from, the new 4 Series Coupe has a better drag coefficient (lower by 0.015), is 57 mm (2.2 in) lower and has a 21 mm (0.8 in) lower center of gravity too.

Combined with the increased negative camber at the front wheels and the 23 mm (0.9 in) wider rear track, the 4 Series Coupe will deliver significantly sharper handling characteristics thanks in part to increased lateral acceleration.

BMW also promises comfort levels will remain “excellent” on everyday drives and long journeys thanks to the double-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle configuration. In addition, the lift-related dampers have been tuned for an even sportier drive.

The 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe also features custom-made tower-to-front end struts and an additional shear panel on the bulkhead to optimize steering precision and response. Furthermore, bracing elements have been added around the rear axle to increase stiffness for improved straight line stability and lateral acceleration.

The engine lineup will also reflect the 4 Series Coupe’s sporty character. Sitting the top of the range will be the M440i xDrive Coupe, powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine rated at 374 PS (369 HP). Interestingly, this powertrain will also feature standard 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, with a 48-volt starter-generator and a second battery working together “to both ease the load on the engine and act in unison with it.”

The electric boost effect generates an additional 8 kW (11 PS/11 HP) for improved acceleration. The engine is mated as standard to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. Also favoring the M440i xDrive Coupe’s handling will be the M Sport differential, M Sport brakes, and 18-inch M light-alloy wheels.

I realize MB is also doing this but I fail to see the payoff for the extra complexity of adding the generator. B58 already makes more power than most people need.

I'm pretty sure it's more of an efficiency thing, right? Companies are doing anything they can to meet these ridiculous EPA requirements.

Is she going to weigh more than a 10 year old 7 series?

If I want a HEAVY AWD vehicle with good straight line speed with an auto and nannies for $60k+/- I'll just buy a Tesla. If you're going to try to sell me an ICE equipped car, at least try to make it worth driving.

Yeah, STI's are pretty slow from rolling start. It takes like nearly 6.5-7sec due to the tall first gear you zip through it and need to shift right away which takes time. I never try to out accelerate a V6 performance car unless from a stop heading towards a merge.

So you guy see why I complain about how slow the BRZ's are because even my STI is considered the slow car that is fun to drive fast.

I've never understood the whole rolling start thing. Like do people not torch their clutches letting them out, revving essentially like you're starting from a stand-still, and blending it the same way if you *REALLY* want to get moving while already rolling?

or brake boost in the case of a turbo car... although, a brake boost in 1st gear at 5mph would be difficult to modulate.

Different strokes for different folks but I’d still take the bmw over a Tesla. Even though they have become heavy and what not, they still have a driving pleasure that I haven’t found in a Tesla. Yes, I know the Tesla will out handle and perform it but there still is some, although a lot less than there use to be of that driving experience bmw offers. Although new bmw interior isn’t much to brag about, I still think it’s better than a Tesla.

Again, different strokes for different folk.
