Default My step by step link tuning expereince.

CPU77 asked for it...

Im not an expert, so make your own choice about how you go about tuning. For your reference only, etc, etc. I dont anyone taking this for more than reference and then coming and saying I blew up their engine.

Assumeing your ecu came configured for your car so you do have to fiddle with coil packs, etc. This is about how I went at it.

0)fill car with the highest octane you can get locally
1)set limits. RPM, boost, idle rpm, etc. . Do yourself a favor and set the static timing value to ~10 (all other software assumes this and will help to talk about total timing)
2) start car. Adjust master fuel trim until its about in the right spot. (leave it a little rich)
3)set Overrun vacuum. Datalog. Rev to 4k and lift suddenly. Set overrun to 2 kpa below that value (you may need to raise it a bit)
4)set clamp. I set mine below my idle kpa. (I had idle surge above that.
5) You should have a some what stable idle now. Make sure your funs and stuff are coming on when the raditor fan flag is set. Make sure the ac flag comes on when you turn on the AC. You can probably go for a slow, gentle drive now. watch your engine temp and listen for det. Dont go far and be prepare to shut down the car if anything starts to happen.
6) This is where it get complex. Line fuel tuning is next. Page up/page down or the arrows to the left side of the table control this. You'll be better off with one person driving and one tuning for awhile. Starting at line 1 and working up is probably a good option. Cruise seems to be anywhere between 30-55kpa around here. First row is mainly idle. The value in the box affects the top point of the rpm segment. so 0-500 rpm you're moving the fuel at 500rpm. The fuel on both side of the kpa you're trying to tune affect it. Generally if you find yourself with spikes in the map, thats bad. Do this slowly and error to the rich side. If you cruise at low speed and cruise at high speed, it will give you to seperate reasonably stable KPA points to tune with. Once you get this, move up to the next line.(you probably already altered line 2 to get this done) The acceleration bit are harder to get stable kpa ranges for, so you'll need to datalog alot. If moving to the next line, you find the gap in values going down from the previous, or an extremely small gap compared to previous line gaps, you'll probably want to increase this line before you try and tune it. (alway better to be removing fuel). Pretty much the same for line tuning here up. Datalog, move the lines. Couple of things to remember: Master fuel sets the 0kpa point (so if the graphs look weird or what not....) You're tuning an entire rpm range at this point. Tune to your leanest point in the rpm curve. Let the rest be rich. You can take that out later in cell tuning. Maps tend to flatten right at idle area, and rise much quicker once boost is hit.

7) Cell tuning. Just really the more advanced version of line tuning. 2 people makes it easier, and datalog, datalog, datalog. (small bursts are generally easier to deal with.) You can either track the active cell and try to make changes , or just click the cells that need change. Pulsewidth peak is usually where peak torque is (you will have already tuned for that). Cell tuning is ALOT of work and will require much data logging. NA WOT is usually the easiest row to cell tune as its repeatable and generally doesnt jump line. (unlike boosted WOT) Once you've tuned that row, At least the NA row echo that fueling. You can probably change the rows below your WOT NA kpa range percentage wise leaner. Remember, be conservative.

8) Once you have a descent map that doesnt go lean anywhere, you're ready to play with timing. Mine (relatively) looks something like. 0.2.3.3.4.4.4.5.5.6.6.7.7.7 (upto 7k, not actual numbers)
No to little timing where you crank your car at startup. Timing rapidly increases and holds somewhat steady until torque peak, and then slowly increases to redline. Be real careful of detonation when playing with timing. I dont have a good suggestion other than go about it like you did with the fuel. BUT BE VERY CAREFUL!

9) you can move onto cell timing now.

Thats about it really. Its only what I did with my link. Im not an expert, so make your own choice about how you go about tuning. For your reference only, etc, etc. I dont anyone taking this for more than reference and then coming and saying I blew up their engine.

Also for reference- my basic rules of tuning Ive been figuring out, learning about, etc.

Midwayman could you please pm me sometime. I have some questions about settings your setup ect. I think it maybe interesting to chat about a similar car with a similar setup.
