I also have a 2016 Outback Limited (2.5i) fully loaded. These are my first Subarus ever.

I have to say, as a new member to this forum, I'm a little disappointed in the negative comments about the new Impreza. Since I own one I can say it really is quite impressive. It's no WRX, but stop comparing it to one, it's not meant to be one. It serves a purpose, and the new platform makes it really stiff and really responsive. I'm really excited about what Subaru has coming with this new platform, and if luck is in my back pocket, I will own a new WRX hatch in the near future. In the meantime, get in the current car and experience the platform and what they've done to improve it before you criticize it for something it was never intended to be.

Brian
There's A LOT of ridiculously stupid group think going on at NASIOC. Be careful, it can be a very poor and misleading source of information at times. In others ways it's good but the general opinions/trends are often absolutely retarded. This thread is a good example, so is the winter tire thread, just shockingly horrible comments and bad decisions being made all over. At times I feel like it's a digital idiocracy.

There are WAY too many people here expecting this to be more than it is.

This is an economy car, not a sports car. It doesn't need more HP (though, extra torque would be nice). It doesn't need a 6 speed, but 5th gear ought to be a little taller. It is meant to be compliant and un-offensive, so it will look boring and have features revolving around comfort.

North America generally seems to get screwed over. The diesel Imprezas seem to be much better - more torque, better fuel economy, and lower RPMs (which means lower engine noise). North America also doesn't get the Levorg, which is pretty much the replacement to the WRX hatchback.

NA has always gotten screwed on desirable Japanese and Euro cars a like. You'd think by now.. we'd get every model/option.

The interior and torque vectoring are the most exciting parts for me, everything else is just 'meh'.

What does a car with 47 hp need torque vectoring for?

My '09 5 speed is more fun to drive. This thing looks like a slab sided econo-box too. Yuck. I bet the electric power steering is great too, right? Subaru's electric power steering is terrible.

145ft lbs? Come on.

That's because it IS an econo-box, so you're complaining about something deliberate. It isn't meant to be fun. That's like buying salt and complaining it's too salty.

Also keep in mind, compared to your '09, the engine is 20% smaller, but has a 29% improvement in fuel economy (highway and city combined) and only 15% less torque. Considering neither cars are meant to be sporty, I'd rather take the fuel economy (and better sound system) for a daily driver.

Subaru's electric power steering is accurate, but doesn't have much feedback. Again, I'm pretty sure that's deliberate.

"you're complaining about something deliberate."

I'm not complaining, my observations are about their decisions, not the outcome.

Obviously they decided to make a crappy little **** box. And I'd rather have my car any day. It's way more fun and mileage is almost as good if I drive it easy. 25fl lbs and 25hp is a hell of a lot in this class and it makes a big difference.

I love the steering in my car too, Subaru electric steering is a disgrace. It's so very, very bad. You need lane keep assist because there's no feel at all. It's dangerously bad. You constantly have to mange minute degrees of steering input and constantly correct because it is so numb. It is tiring after ten minutes. Oh well. I'll never be buying a non WRX Impreza again, that's for sure.

Just look at the wing on the back of this sports model!
Seriously...they put a "wing" on a car that gets to 60mph in 13.26 sec?!?!

I have to say that me and my 6.2" starlink system is jealous of the new 8" model.

It's very cool to start seeing these cars out on the road as we have been building them since last summer and to be a part of them has been an amazing feeling. Good Job Subaru!

And when were base Imprezas anything other than that?

I will say that Subaru really needs to do something better for the STI. Heck, they could do quite well ELIMINATING the STI as is it today which is just a more tight version of the WRX with only 30 more HP which is lame.

If they want to keep the EJ257 for another go round I say kill the STI all together and just offer factory upgrades to the WRX like brembo brake package, the DCCD 6 speed transmission, and bigger turbo package on the FA20 engine to make 300+hp along with suspension bits. Make the STI a parts catalog short-term.

Then if they want a higher-end "STI" model, develop a 450+ hp turbo flat 6 and do something cool with it. STI guys go and spend 10-20k in aftermarket upgrades as it is, Subaru should just allow them to do that through Subaru.

Default Trunk dimension

Anyone know what's the dimension of the trunk? How deep is the trunk and how wide at the narrowest point? Does it able to handle a golf bag without the seat fold down? does it fit a 26" luggage sliding in with the longest end along the depth of the trunk? I understand it definitely not the spacious car in terms of trunk space but I like small cars (easier to maneuver) and as long as the trunk able to do those 2 task I'm in for the car.

Test drove an auto it was trash, test drove a manual and I like it enough I put an order in.

I'm buying a car for under 19k I can't complain, everyone who is bitching about power missed the memo about what this car is about. It handles better then my GF4 gets great gas mileage and the gear box isn't **** like other cars I've driven. Steering is ok, I get decent feedback but I'm not going to be driving on the side of a mountain doing 90mph so it doesn't bother me.

Do I have complaints yes... for what I am spending and what I am getting I have no right to complain.

Out of curiosity, have you driven any of the 2012-2016 2.0i models? If so, would you consider this to drive significantly better than those? Is there anything you felt was distinctly worse?

I drive 90mph on the side of mountains so I guess this POS electric steering 2.0crapbox isn't for me.

My dad recently purchased a new 2017 Impreza Premium CVT sedan for my sister. It replaced a 94' Camry she had. The car is much better than my 07' WRX was except for it having less power and the steering feel.

..not sure if you you're trying to prove them right or wrong lol.

It doesn't look like a focus except for being a hatchback and having 4 wheels. Yes, there are wrinkles that are similar but the entire front facias are completely distinctive from one another as well as all of the head and tail-light designs.

People say cars today look too similar and 'back in the day' cars used to look much more unique. BS. The internet has blinded people.

If you want to see cars that ACTUALLY look alike, go to the 90's.
