Subaru AWD Explained: AWD, VDC, DCCD
If you buy a 2020 Outback, WRX STI, a Crosstrek with a manual transmission or a WRX with a CVT, you get one of four very different all-wheel drive systems. Even though Subaru advertises it simply as "Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive". In this video we look at the modern history of the systems, and how every version of the system works in current Subaru models. Key information in this video was sourced from internal Subaru tech docs and conversations with Subaru engineers. |

Nice information!
However, I think it misses the early manual-transmission WRX system which has a center viscous limited-slip coupling/differential (50:50 split) and rear viscous limited-slip differential. (I found that out after a lot of reading online.) I loved the "in action" clips btw. |

Nice video. Are there guidelines for manual DCCD on dry surfaces? I vaguely recall seeing something about manual/full lock would be harmful to the center diff for street driving. And the recommendation was, if you were in manual mode, keep it all the way down.

Hey Ryan
Did you ever get the email I sent you explaining what I'd discovered about XMODE and hill descent?

This was really interesting and just fun to watch. Can the difference between STi-style limited slip diffs and plain VCD be felt while driving?
