Default Asian Americans. Big Trouble in Many Places.

https://nextshark.com/new-york-city-...unched-kicked/

If not shot, stabbed or spit on, they're stomped, racially yelled at or choked out.

And a lot of the violence is coming from Latinos and Blacks too.

WTF...I guess being stereotypically timid, quiet and keeping amongst themselves makes them an easy target. Especially the elders.

This world is screwed up.

sigh....it's pretty sad how bad it's getting. we're supposed to be getting better but the
"dark side" as it were , just has such a strong grip on the bad people of the world.

i just want unity and positivity.

NYC is not the south (or Boston), thus our racists come in all colors.

BTW, it may say so in that article, but they arrested him. He had been in jail for yearrrrs for ... stabbing his mom to death. They also suspended the doormen who turned their backs on the situation.

Yeah, that's the doormen. Suspended according to the building they work in. They probably will get fired though.

The feeling that someone is below you is often an indicator. Said person has made the leap to thinking they are superior.

For full disclosure I am Asian-American so obviously this hits closer to home and I'm more exposed to it. This has been happening for months now. Many think that the #StopAsianHate movement was born out of the Atlanta shootings, but our people have been attacked in broad daylight on the street way before that happened. The shooting was just the most deadly one and the one that the media focused on the most. See below for just a sampling of incidents, all within the past 2-3 months or so.

It's a ****ed up world when these are older/elderly people just minding their own business and being ambushed out of nowhere. It's sad when I have to worry about my parents going to the grocery store and being attacked. Racism against Asians blew up big time shortly after COVID, mostly from the fact that COVID originated in China and people were just looking for an easy target, but a lot of the racism I saw and heard about last year was just verbal in nature. Still ****ed up, but telling someone "go back to your country" is nowhere near as bad as physically attacking them.

There was also a "slap an Asian challenge" going around social media a few weeks ago. As if social media wasn't already a bad enough influence on people the Bay Area (San Francisco/Oakland) and NYC are hotspots for these types of attacks. There have been a few in LA but nowhere near as many as the other two areas.

It's been a problem since the earliest days, before we even had a transcontinental railroad.

One built on the backs of Asian immigrant labor.

Yup. Chinese Exclusion Act. Segregation, not to be hired and eventually denied business licenses (since Asians had to be business owners since they couldn't be hired so they setup laundry mats, dry cleaning, restaurants, massage parlors and such which led to the stereotype) and citizenship (until the 14th Amendment covered that).

Yup, all of the violence against Asians has been going on for awhile now. It just more trending now. Almost everyday event. I take my 86 yr old grandma out for a 2 mile walk every week and have to be more aware of our surroundings more than usual. This is probably the only time you hear Asians speaking out. I'm not in NY but in Mass, but still cautious.

Be safe out there man. I am fortunate that my parents are both retired and live out in the suburbs. They rarely go out and even do most of their grocery shopping online.

My GF's mom takes public transport (BART) from SF to Oakland every day for work so that's a lot more concerning for us as both of those cities have been hit hard by this

Big part of the issue is that 'open wearing' of slippers isn't common here in the states, so even though it's common to use them in the home, it's a disadvantage when out in public.

what the actual ****.

I really believe that social media, when used for any purpose other than scheduling a party, or saying hi to a friend, is a horrible thing.

ok, you can make an argument that FB groups are ok, but that's about it.

Asian business owners are also constantly targeted, because a lot of them take the cash home with them at the end of they day, and scumbag criminals know that. So they follow them home, then rob them.

This isn't the least bit new. I lived in Oakland (two blocks from China Town) over a decade ago and there was a huge wave of black on Asian attacks, robberies, and murders. The local Asian community was basically left high and dry by the city.

I have to admit that I wasn't aware of how much of a problem this has become, since mainstream media all but ignored it until the Atlanta shootings. And it's really unfortunate that it took something that bad to make it newsworthy. I just worry that if those attacks become the whole basis for the #StopAsianHate movement, it could backfire when more details eventually come out in the shooter's trial. If they discover that his main motivation was misogyny because he was a frustrated incel type and the victims were mostly Asian because the majority of massage parlors in the area are Asian-owned, it could give the deplorables all the ammunition they need to call the whole thing "fake news".

I also think that Trump and the GOP caused a lot of this with their constant use of China virus or China flu to refer to COVID, intead of using the actual name. It's been a successful strategy for them forever now -- as long as you can blame anything bad on some "other" person or group, you never have to take responsibility for anything.

The Karate Kid | PART I | Drunk Miyagi "BONZAI" - YouTube

I have been to Manzanar in California and the Rohwer War Relocation Center in Arkansas (George Takei spent time there.) And was in no way depressed after going

I know of at least two Camps in Idaho. Minidoka, which is now run by the NPS, SE of Boise along with Kooskia Internment Camp in north-central Idaho.

The interesting thing about Kooskia is that the Internees were put to work, building Highway 12 and were paid $50-60/m.

Being both uninformed and sure of where blame falls is definitely a reasonable point of view.

You should have stopped at “I wasn’t aware” and then looked into it for yourself.

Riiiight, because constantly calling covid the "chinese virus" doesn't at all stir up any kind of anti Asian sentiment. orange baby may not have invented racism but he as sure as crap didn't help it. So get bent.
