May have gone a bit overboard on the stereo lately.
Replaced the Deftech Demand D9 bookshelf speakers with a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 500's. They're unreal, and I don't even bother with the subwoofer as these can get down to 30Hz. I also picked up a NOS Grace F9E Ruby for the Garrard 301. I had to order new headshell leads to get it wired up, they should be here tomorrow.

Wasn't too bad, they were a practically new pair traded in to my local record/stereo shop. I traded a pair of Martin Logan bookshelf speakers and my vintage MAC1900 receiver for them. Normally they're around $1300 each, so I'm happy with that trade. I never did get around to setting up another system anyway.

I'm using a Marantz NR1200 receiver, 75w/channel at 8 ohms. A little underpowered for what they can handle, but I live in an apartment with people above and below me, and I'm trying not to piss them off too much.
It does sound very lovely when it's going though. |

For now I'm powering things with an Anthem MRX720, 140 watts per channel on the mains and things start to sound a bit off when I'm really cranking things. First step is adding power and seeing where things stand. I'm also looking to replace my particular deftechs because I'm beginning to dislike the idea of active/partially active speakers. |

I get that, I remember you had issues with your Deftechs powered subs needing to be repaired, and it's apparently not an uncommon issue. These can handle 250 watts, and they have high/mid and low speaker binding posts if you want to play with bi-amping or bi-wiring. I have mine bi-wired, not that I expect it to do much, but my receiver has the ability to run A and B speakers, so you can run A+B and send A to one frequency and B to the other.
Soundstage on these is really impressive. I'm watching Master & Commander now and for running 2 channels, it fills the room with sound. Positioning isn't ideal, the left speaker is kind of stuck in the corner, but playing around with toe in and plugging the bass ports lets me tune them enough to keep things from getting boomy. |

The Home Audio/Video Thread
Wifey grabbed a Yamaha 7.2 receiver today from Costco for me to set up in the master closet to drive the speakers in the ceiling of the main room and our two offices. It’s a TSR-700 which seems decent - not as nice as my RX I’ve got downstairs in the theater but it’ll work.
Actually they sound pretty good for ambiance music. They are some sort of Infinity, haven’t looks at the model. The two offices have volume controls which will be very nice and the main room doesn’t but that’s ok since it works to control the volume via phone. |

Hooked up my son's system with a new Klipsch 12" sub to replace his little Dayton sub 8.
Not too shabby. Picking up a 55" Vizio mq7 tomorrow to replace his 2013 55" m series. |

Semi serious question...
Is the average person OK with the amount of edge light bleed on $900 TV these days? I picked up and returned an LG 81 series for light bleed, picked up the 85 series and it still looks like **** The 90 series wasn't in stock |

If you're going to keep a CRT might as well be a 32" XBR or something. Only thing it's really good for is old console games.

I wasn't and upsold myself twice before ending up with a backlit Sony 940D. Maybe it's not as noticable on smaller screens, but at 60" it's bad.

Same, I had a LG that was horrible and upgraded to the Sony that's in my basement now but was our main display until we moved to this house.

Well decided to make some serious upgrades to the basement. I had been using SVS prime wireless with an sb1000, while great have been wanting for a long time. I went with a pair of SVS ultras, ultra center and an sb4000. Currently running on a Denon AVR-4800. I have an Emotiva XPA-3 coming in and planning on upgrading to a newer Denon soon. The AVR is great in two channel as it does 250 wpc, but you can't play with any crossovers and this was long before they even though of Audyssey.

Nice! Kinda jealous of your ultra towers. I had to go with the bookshelves due to lack of space. I'd recommend swapping the location of your AVR and the center. That cubby will be impacting the sound from the ultra center. Plus, bringing it up will put the tweeters on the same plane as the towers, which would be beneficial.

I have to rearrange things and modify the cabinet as I can tell it is impacting the sound. The panel on the back prevents me from fitting the receiver or amp due to depth. So will probably take time this weekend to swap things around and make some modifications. Hopefully amp will be hear soon so i can crank them up a bit without worrying about not enough power. So far though even though only have about 10 hours of listing they are very impressive speakers. |
