The LS 400, LS 430, and my beloved 100 series Land Cruiser are definitely from that same mindset. My LC has two independent switchable sets of TPMS for winter/non-winter wheelsets, and two sun visors on each side, for instance.

Hot take: The Previa egg was the worst of the Toyota vans.

Looked and sounded cool on paper, but failed at being a van in nearly every other way that mattered.

Technically it was a unibody, but it was a unibody that very closely mimicked a body-on-frame with huge frame rails running down both sides. They made for an unreasonably high floor so that the engine hump under the front seats was barely a hump at all. This meant there was very little leg room for any of the rear seat passengers, and the engine hump meant that folks with long torsos like me had their scalps in the headliner when driving. The engine's location didn't really help much with handling since the rest of the vehicle drove like a truck with a high CoG, and it didn't provide much power at all, particularly not in the naturally aspirated AWD version my GF's family had.. so it's biggest contribution to the experience was interior engine noise.

At the time, the several-year-old van looked way better than most of the contemporary competition from Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler because it wasn't (like them) made out of school glue and sawdust. Honda's Odyssey was still just a frumpy 5-door station wagon, remember. Once enough people had waxed the unpainted bumpers and smashed them up in fender benders, they started looking just as junky as the rest of the minivans. I don't see any appeal today.

I have owned 3 subarus all 3 had the same issues, rattles inside, rust in the rear fenderwells, and finally headgaskets. My list is oddball, but i'm open to different vehicles this time.

Defender. Also tows 8000lbs. Can be had with 2 doors son and still spacious back seats

Test drive a Macan too, even the base 4cyl. Especially if you want fun to drive.

My understanding is that Toyota produced limited numbers of the Rav4 Prime and whatever was sold was done so at massive markups due to the demand.

Is this likely to change, or should I add Toyota to my list of POS auto manufacturers?

Had a GLA250 FWD as a loaner last week. It's garbage. Don't know specifics of your choice, but if considering anything MB, I would look at the GLC over the GLA. Shouldn't be a huge price point difference, but there should be a vast improvement in overall vehicle feel/comfort.

Looking at cars.com for Rav4 Prime within 250 miles from me, most are listed at MSRP, a few are below MSRP, and a few just above. Depending on location and availability, you might find them at a reasonable price.

I don't believe ADMs are reflected on prices listed on auto trader or cars.com but I could be wrong.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. Of the listings I just reviewed, most of the Prime XSEs were listed in the mid $40s. And the Prime SE in the high 30s to low 40s. There was one in the $60s that listed that as the MSRP but obviously that would include dealer mark up. There were a few examples that it listed the MSRP and then a dealer mark up of about $3000. Then a few had the listed price below the MSRP. If you can find one at or below the actual MSRP, it would be worth checking out.

2020 Prime was supposedly limited to 5000 units due to supply restrictions. Some markets are still selling over MSRP, but other places are a little under.

TheTopher (Winding Road Editor) was not exactly impressed by the interior of that thing (or is the Sport dramatically cheaper inside?).

They severely underestimated the popularity. They did up the volume but only like another couple thousand for this year (suppliers can only run so much overtime). Volume will jump to over 20k per year for next year, though.

That's a weird mistake to make because the Rav4 is one of their generally popular volume sellers and their hybrids always sell well. It's like Toyota doesn't know its own market
