So you're saying that "meaty" is simply a tire section width thing?

Couldn't it also mean section height (235/45 is certainly "bigger" in this respect than a 245/40 or a 255/35)? What about sidewall shape (bulge or belly)?

I could suggest 255/40-18, which is bigger than 245/40-18 in all three respects. But it would feel a little less willing to turn in when cornering and might be a bit less precise, and by being a tiny bit taller would give away a tiny amount of forward acceleration.

Odd fitment question, but I’d like to reuse a set of snow wheels:tires.

Will a 205/50R17x7.5 ET23 fit on a 2015+ WRX? Stock height. I know offset is aggressive, but the 205 has some pinch on the 7.5” wheel.

Should be fine. They poke more than stock but nothing crazy. What suspension are you on?

Default Wheels for stock 2019 summer tires

Hello all!

I have a 2019 STI that I currently have my set of winter tires on. The stock wheels are 19x8.5 and I keep swapping between tire sets for winter/summer (Sottozero 3/Advan V105). I'd like to make the process a bit easier and get a standalone set of wheels that I can keep my summers on. We have access to an ATEQ TPMS tool that will make the seasonal swap a breeze.

From what I have seen over the past few days of searching is that most people switch to 18" wheels, even on the newer STI's with 19's. I'd rather stick with a set of 19" wheels instead of making a set of tires irrelevant.

With that said I've had my eye on the Gram Lights 57DR as an option to mount my oem summer tires on. I'd stick with the same size as the stock wheels at 19x8.5 and am looking at the (35) offset. I cannot find any pictures of the 2015+ STI's with these wheels, save for one on RAYS facebook with a wide body kit and extreme camber (think time-attack racer).

Does anyone have a set of these in this size, or even the 57CR's (5-spoke) that can share their experience, or better yet pictures?? I'd like to make my mind up on this before my fiance figures out what I'm up to!

Thanks for any assistance. This thread has been a great read and your cars look awesome!!

57DR 19x8.5 (18" has holes drilled between the lugs)

Default 18x10 +30 TE37SL

Hey guys! I got a really good deal on some used TE37SL’s. My only concern is fitment.
The specs are 18x10 +30 (wrapped in 265 Falken Azenis). Currently I’m redoing my entire suspension (ohlin coils, whiteline swaybars, rear LCAs, front roll kits etc). I know I’ll for sure have to roll the fenders but is anyone else running these wheels/specs? The car is a daily but I track it, plenty of spirited driving, some autocross etc. I’m not breaking records but I’m also not stancing the car out.
Are the wheels at this spec more of a detriment to the car and my use of it? I’m honestly not opposed to selling or trading them at this point if it means getting a better fitting wheel. Thanks in advance.

Everything that follows assumes that your suspension mods do not move the wheel mounting surfaces in or out.

Here's a link to an animated wheel/tire fitment plot specifically for the 2015-2019 WRX and 2015-2019 STi cars. There's a nominal fee involved that gets you lifetime access, which seems fair considering how much work must have gone into plotting it all up (including the ability to vary camber).

I can give you a static wheel and tire only comparison against the stock WRX 18x8.5 and 245/40-18. It'll be on you to make measurements and determine clearances/need for fender modification.

I did have to assume you meant 265/35-18 . . .

I suspect that 18x10 with an ET of +40 or so would be easier to deal with. +30 looks like it isn't using all the room on the inside that it could, and pushes the outside further out than necessary.

Yes on the assumed tire specs, sorry I left that out. Thank you for the insightful response and resource. I will be looking into it further. Appreciate it!

Default ESR CS3 18x9.5 +35

First time posting. I figured I come here to ask if the wheel tire setup I'm going for will require any mods such as camber adjust or fender rolling.

I plan on going with the ESR CS3 18x9.5 +35 with the stock tires that came on the 2020 WRX Premium model that are 245/40 and I will be lowering the car with the RCE Yellows which will give it about .9 of an inch drop all around.

My guess is that I won't get any rub with this setup unless I go with tires with a taller sidewall.

Here's about how your proposed setup compares to OE 245/40-18 on 18x8.5 ET +55 wheels. I have no idea how much lowering it will tolerate.

Have a 2020 Sti and looking at aftermarket 19s size 19x9.5 +40. What tires size should I go with? I have coilovers and rear lower control arms so can adjust front and rear camber. Will roll fenders if necessary. Would like 265/35/19 or 255/35/19 but 265/30/19 may be better but don't want rubber band looking tires. I had 265/35/18 on my 2011 with 18x9.5 +40 wheels and was a perfect fit with coilovers and rolled fenders. Any thoughts?

265/30 is going to have about 13 mm less sidewall than 265/35 (about 10mm less sidewall than 255/35). Think pinch flats and rim damage in street driving.

255/35-19 would be the closest diameter match to the 245/35-19 OE tire size.

And FWIW, you can even mount the OE 245/35's on 9.5" wide wheels if you don't mind a mildly stretched appearance (9.5" is the max recommended wheel width for 245/35, any diameter).

Quick question, would I be able to run stock size rubber (235/45-17) on a 17x9 wheel? I have a feeling there will be too much stretch...

I'm still reading through all the pages here and there seems to be few people running 17" wheels. I like having more sidewall (maybe because I just dented my 2-piece BBS wheel on my BMW E39 on a damn pothole) and it'd be nice to be able to switch tires and run the stockers for a couple thousand miles.

This is my car with 17x9 with stock sizes tires. I ran them until they wore out and I went with 255’s.

Pretty sure the stock 235/45 is approved up to 9" wide. Shouldn't be too stretched
Example below

235/45-17 is Tire & Rim Association approved for fitment on 9" wide wheels.

The measuring width wheel for 235/45-17 is 8", so with measuring width as the basis for either 'stretch' or 'pinch', yes it would be mildly stretched. Near as I can tell, mid-height on the sidewalls will be flush with the outside surfaces of the wheels - the wheel should not peek out past the tire when viewed from directly in front or directly behind.

Whether that's "too much stretch" for any given individual depends too much on individual preferences regarding appearance. Though I will note that if you were chasing cornering performance, a bit of 'stretch' would hint at what you were up to . . . to those in the know, anyway.

Gotcha. I certainly am chasing cornering performance- to a degree at least.

I probably should read another 200 pages of this damn thread, but I appreciate you giving me some useful information. My stock wheels with 235/45 tires are 8" wide so I wasn't sure if stepping up to a 9" wheel width would prevent me from running a 235/45.

Thanks for the help! With regard to running a stretched tire, I'm trying to avoid a situation like this:

That much stretch is just plain nuts. Shock value meets silly.

You don't have anything to worry about - I think it'll actually look a lot more like these pictures where I'm running 285-wide tires on their 11" max-recommended wheel width. 50mm more tire, 2 x 25.4mm more wheel.

The sidewall shapes plotted up from nominal dimensions look very similar (my own curve-fit solution).

Depends on your suspension setup. But with that spec and a larger than stock tire, you are more likely to have rubbing.

Here's about how that compares to OE (245/40-18 on 18x8.5 ET55 wheels). More than an inch further 'out' than stock and being a smidge taller . . . I can't call it good without possible problems either.

I recently bought a set of Weds SA-25r 18x9.5 +45 and currently running stock size tires, 245/40. Just wanted to confirm that I will have enough clearance to run 265/35 PS4S tire with no fender mods and stock suspension. May also have 4or5 people in the car at times with gear so want to make sure I won't rub. cheers
