Back then you got what you paid for! One of my uncles had the 40" Mitsu CRT back in the day. Who wants to help move it?

Yeah, I had a 36" Toshiba. It was awesome. For about a week before flat screens came out. For the same price.

I had one of those Sony XBRs, it kept on trucking for many years, we even dropped it when we moved out of my old apartment. Picture was slightly crooked after that. I didn't end up replacing it until like 2016 or so.

Also... Anyone buy a UHD bluray player recently? I had been using my xbox onex as a UHD bluray player for quite some time now but recently the optical drive stopped reading UHD disks, regular blurays were fine. After replacing the drive last night without any improvement I'm going to just go buy a new player.

They were hands down the best tv you could get then for sure, at least of what we had in the store. The larger projector pictures weren’t as good.

My old Hitachi RPTV was no slouch, but it took a lot of work and extra cost to get it there. It was not great out of the box, but after having the interior lined with fabric, and the projectors calibrated to ISF spec, I'd have put it up against any other display of the era. Fond memories of that behemoth.

Prior to leaving for Korea in March of 2019, I bought a Klipsch RSB-11 sound bar/ sub setup. A couple of months ago, sound from the sound bar would cut out and only play the sub, but it'd happen intermittently.
Welp, now it's dead all together (minus the sub). Of course it's out of warranty. I took it apart to look for something obviously loose, as one time tapping on it seemed to make it work Of course nothing is obvious, so I assume it's something on the little main board that contains basically everything. I sent a support message to Klipsch asking about a replacement board or repair service. I'm hoping they're willing to help somehow. If not, I have a $400 paperweight |

I am once again nowhere close to a shop that offers tube radio repair. In the meantime, as a little project, I plan on putting a small BT receiver/ amp, and phono pre amp into the broken record pocket and wire them to the current turntable and speakers. I hate soldering, so what could possibly go wrong

These are most common on thermally and mechanically stressed components like large transistors, regulators, connectors, power resistors etc. Since you hate soldering have a beer first. |

Saw this on Craigslist. Emailed the guy if he'd consider selling everything but the speakers.
https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/e...254439557.html It seems like a really good deal, I was thinking of offering $1700 for the seats/projector/screen/receiver. What say you OT? It's not a 4k projector, so I'd have to upgrade that eventually, but the price of everything, I think it seems like a good deal. |

Eh, told him forget it but if he pieces it out I would be interested in the receiver.

Can any of you recommend a receiver that would work to send audio to in-wall speakers. It’s 3 sets of speakers.
I like my Yamaha how I can play from Spotify right to it, I’m tempted to just grab a Yamaha but don’t need a full theater model. Is there another brand that works like that? |

I'm stuck on what to get next in my basement, seating or the projector/screen next. And with the projector, I need to figure out what to do with my 65" 4k tv that's mounted on the wall. Do I get a motorized screen so that when we're just watching youtube or something that doesn't need to be projected, we're not wasting the bulb time on a projector? Or do I get a telescoping mount and put the TV off to the side and move over as needed? |

I have a sony 1080 receiver and I use airplay to stream directly to it from my phone. Very convenient, as I can use any music app to play to my receiver. This receiver can also output to any bluetooth speaker. Ive yet to try it though. Wired, well, works just as any for music. Price, its high right now. I caught it on a low based on camelcamelcamel |

Projectors do two things that many do not like. They give off heat (maybe nice in the winter but it sucks in the summer) and they make noise. A recently deceased friend used projectors for years and dumped them when he got his X940D a few years ago. The current panels are getting so good at blacks that projectors just don't have the gain over a panel that they used to. The only benefit I see (I planned on putting a projector in my HT for many years then tossed it when I recently redid the HT) is if you really want 100+ inch screen. There are 85" panel options now that are relatively affordable (Sony X900H comes to mind and I think Black Friday the 85" was $1999). I like the 75" size myself. Put the seats 10-12 feet away and it's pretty damn nice. I'd only want a 4k projector myself and they are not cheap at all. Then you need a quality screen and those are a few grand so the projector + solid screen is going to be the better part of ten grand. Sony's new Panel lineup released at CES and the models look really solid. Seats I got these. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/octane-...?skuId=2796749 But I bought mine when the 3 seat setup was like $1800. |

I do wish TVs didn't shrink with time. My 77" looked huge in the living room at first. Now, not so much.

I’m pretty happy in my basement with the 82”. I could’ve gone bigger and do have room for a projector but it works well. I do agree it seems to have gotten smaller in the last few weeks. |

We have an 85" Sony in the main living room, we got it at BB for 2k, so you do make a good point about that vs a projector, though I was hoping for a 120" screen for that theatre experience. Yup, we started with a 60" in the old house, then when that TV died we got the 65" Sony that's in my basement now. The 85" looks "normal" now in the living room. |

The 85” in the living room. Doesn’t look that big on that giant wall.

Question: Where do you sit to watch TV in that setup?
Do you rotate the couch around? |

camera probably makes it look worse than it is.
Else, you got like a 20 ft viewing distance there |

The first pic is with the ultrawide camera, makes it looks further than it is. IIRC it's 16 feet away while sitting. |
