The seeming lack of ANY regard for public health by this country's population is gut-wrenching, honestly. As someone who's worked in public health for 15 years, I really thought this country was just better than this... What is happening now is SO much worse than it could have been.
Problem is that there will still be enough people susceptible to infections / using hospital resources that the country will remain on varying levels of lock down and the economy will not have a chance to rebound until infection rates / death rates / hospitalizations are under control.

I am curious to know if travel restrictions (purely selfish) will be removed for employees that are vaccinated (both at the federal government level and my employer). We are on a mandatory 14 day period where we cannot go to work if we leave the country (mandated by my employer).

Right on cue, this thread takes a turn for the stoopid. Must be the entire rest of the forum that's poison rather than one individual troll...

Yes. I selfishly want to resume something like normal travel. I have places to go.

I'd like to get the shot(s) and then be able to get on a plane. I think we're going to keep wearing masks for a long time, and that's ****ing fine. It's a cloth mask. It does not hurt.

Shhhhhhhhh. The thread's fine.

Also, I got a q-tip shoved into my brain by a stranger this week. Still awaiting results, but I think it'll be negative. I think I have a cold.

Don't quote the troll.

Absolutely no one here made any declarations about Americans or Europeans as people... before the troll did.

It's a virus. It infects people. Good people, bad people, purple people eaters...

Europe is many countries. The US is one country. We're in different time zones, on different continents, with different weather and other factors.

What the hell? Everything's really serious in the city with masks and spacing. 90% of people walking outside anywhere are masked. Even people running/biking along the lake are around 50% masked. And we're still not doing well thanks to population density.

We know that population density plays a role.

Ditto.

I think colder climates will get punished as people flock indoors and continue to hang out.

Haven't had people over since March, or gone out to eat with friends/colleagues since March.

Trying to avoid getting the COVID b/c I have stuff to do.

Will take a vaccine as soon as available.

Oh, I agree - it's like a bell you can't un-ring at this point. It will help to SOME degree to have a functional Federal response starting in a couple months, but because of "reasons" a large slice of the population now believes actively ignoring public health advice is an act of patriotic civil disobedience, and just just "stupidity" (which is what it should be called).

I think something like this is likely. Get used to having to proactively demonstrate your "safe" health status to resume normal activities that are higher risk. The Libertarians will cry about it, but they directly helped put us in this situation that necessitates such intrusions, so **** 'em. They demanded the freedumb to behave like irresponsible fools, and got it, so here we are.

Fair enough!

With that said: Europe is definitely ****ing suffering. Their numbers look worse than the US right now, both new cases and deaths. Ugh. I wonder how much it has to do with weather? The East coast of the US has been very warm this fall. When it gets colder, will we see our numbers go up likewise?

People here are implying Americans are uncaring ******** because there are more infections. The graph illustrates definitively that virus levels spiking has nothing to do with caring, or being an *******.

Virus levels are spiking everywhere. It's winter, people are going to be locked up together more increasing spread, and we are doing a LOT more testing globally.

Its impossible to talk about the virus while ignoring the obvious willful ignorance that is the sole reason this s*** if taking off like it is.

I'd like to think we're all in this together. We're not. I'd like to think we're all on the same team. We're not. This idea vanished the day I saw the idiotic "freedumz" protesters on the street corner.

I do what I need to do to stay safe and keep my family safe. No indoor interaction. No unmasked outings. Washing hands. Eating healthy (maintaining my immune system) No going out to eat, no movies, no hotels, no international travel (this biggest bummer).

I'll continue to let the idiots be idiots.

I think changing weather is also helping to fuel the spread.

But willful ignorance is certainly not helping.

We can't control the weather. We can control our behaviors, though. Or some of us can. Some of us are pathologically unable to get along with the majority and obey rules, instead flying into a pants-****ting rage if the masses don't listen to them.

It's sad.
