Answering Lag I realized I didn't update my post
We ended up with this: Hammerhead GTS Platinum. I managed to find one for what I think is a good price. I like it's big enough for adults, but the seat slides forward enough for my 11 Y/O to reach everything.

I'm not familiar with the area but I generally go with:
1) Tow strap 2) A can of fix a flat. (100%) - I've used a ton of that stuff over the years. 3) Phone with GPS and a good map. 4) You could bring a bit of gas with you on your rack. I don't know how secluded the area is but it's always nice to have that. Plus, you can help someone else if they run out. 5) Basic medical kit - you never know what will happen. 6) Flashlight, matches, knife, etc. just in case. 7) Jump box. Nothing worse than turning the key only to find it dead in the middle of no where. They are cheap and easy to store. 8) Water and then some. 9) I always bring some tools but I don't know what I'm doing with them. Have a good time. |

Man this thread died.
Anyway, got sick of having terrible lighting so new headlights + 35W HID kit. Here's my 5 year old on her 50cc Polaris. My wife is following behind. |

Nice! You're a lucky man to be able to ride with your wife and young girl.
I really want to get back into it this year but it'll probably sit in the garage more often than not. I might grab something simple if I can get it cheap. Honda recon, one of the 250 "sport" quads, 400 ex, etc. Just something that is reliable and simple to putt around on. |

I’ve been riding here and there on my 700 KingQuad. However- I have encountered battery issues. Lots of reading has shown that the 06/07s have had electrical problems right from the factory. Going on 3rd battery in like 4 years. I’m going to change my front LED light bar tho to the factory wiring/ headlights rather than the switch/ relay/ fuse I had. I love riding and wish I could do more of it. I usually just use the quad to plow my huge ass driveway and help the neighbors.

Been over a month since this thread has updated.
Purchased a new to me 2014 Grizzly 700 with 300 miles about 1 month ago. Will be replacing my 2007 Grizzly 700 which will be going up for sale soon... once this isolation thing has subsided. Nice part about the 2014 is most of my accessories from the 2007 will move over to the new Grizzly. So trying to get all of that completed during this down-time. Really want to get the time to swap in my modified primary sheave and secondary purple spring. Still need to find someone to weld a bung onto the header pipe so I can install my AFR wideband meter and then get the FI Tuner installed. Can't wait to get her on trail but need more of this snow to melt off and dry up too. |

Nobody seems to believe that the wheel studs on our RZR are 10x1.25mm. Yes, they're tiny! I'm looking for some hub centric adapters to go to 12mm studs (same bolt pattern). These are not easy to find Looks like the current solution is to get wheel spacers and remove/drill/install 12mm studs.
This was the excuse to get new wheels: |

Part of me wants to sell the quad. Not getting much use, and would rather the $$ Doubt people would come look at it with today's conditions though |

Just depends. IMHO people that ride quads aren't super concerned with COVID. But that's just my $0.02. Definitely seems to be a "red" type of activity, if you know what I mean.

Need some opinions here. I'm thinking of buying a new 2019 Raptor 700 simply because used prices are only like $2k-$3k less and who knows the condition. I am also looking at buying a used ATV for the lady that can is versatile for trails and maybe some light sand dune action and also a dirt bike. Here are the questions.
1: which atv for the lady would you recommend? She's pretty small. Like 5'1 and 105 at most. Prefer automatic for her 2: I also want a dirt bike for myself and tossing back and forth between spending the extra cash on a new fuel injected or grabbing and older kx250 or Yamaha / Honda equivalent. I've had a kx125 and 250 when I was in middle school and high school and both were damn reliable and flawless. My question is this. Is it really worth spending significantly more for a fuel injected bike? I can grab a clean kx250 2003-06'ish for maybe $3k max. Fuel injected I'm looking at $6k or so which isn't that far off from new/ |

IMHO I would be fine buying a used Raptor so long as it is a fuel injected one. Quads aren't super popular so there are deals to be had. Are you sure you want the 700? The one thing I don't like about it is the weight. If I was in the market I'd be looking for a 400 or 450. They really aren't any slower but definitely lighter.
For your lady....that's tough since it's harder to find something larger than a 200 or 250 that isn't designed as a farm implement (4wd, racks, etc.). We also have a KFX-700 which is an auto but that sucker is a big beast. I wouldn't suggest that for someone your lady's size. You really have to be able to manhandle it. I have nothing against carbs so long as you know how to work on them. At least the carbs on these things are pretty simple. Crazy idea, what about a SxS instead of a second quad? Then you can either ride together or she drives the SxS and you're on a quad. And you can carry stuff. Might be a good compromise? Last edited by NutBucket; 04-23-2020 at 03:57 PM. |

My concern with a UTV is several things She would get too confident on a trail not looking ahead and find herself rolling it and really injuring herself. Whereas with a atv I think she would be more cautious. They seem more expensive to maintain and I would need a larger trailer. I also think she would get bored of a UTV unless I bought some top of the line Razr / can-am and I’m not dumping that type of cash. |

It depends on the altitude changes you plan on experiencing. Back in Denver, I wouldn't want to run a carbed bike. Some days you might ride at 5000ft and other days you might 10,000 ft. I would rather load and ride than deal with adjusting the carbs depending on where I am riding. If Utah is similar go with Fuel Injected.

I'd suggest something like a 2011-2012 Rzr 800/900. Those are dirt cheap and plenty fast enough. New prices are....yeah.
https://denver.craigslist.org/snw/d/...110716575.html We've got an 900 XP4 and sure the turbos are stupid fast but the old 900 is still plenty fun in the sand. Last edited by NutBucket; 04-23-2020 at 05:17 PM. |

I consider my Grizzly 700 far more on the sport end of the spectrum than utility. Now, that's not to say I would buy it for dune riding as at the dunes, definitely I'd want a sport ATV. But the trail riding I do in the CO mountains and also in Moab, no way in hell would I want a sport ATV, it would suck. Many places we trail ride in the mountains, 4x4 is required and I actually prefer to be in 2wd a majority of the time. I bought my Grizzly as a trail riding priority with easy ability for plow duty. It's a great machine, not the highest hp out there, but I don't feel I need more hp than I have as I have a tendency to be stupid enough with the current hp. |

Godfather said he was looking to buy a Raptor....which is obviously better suited for dunes than tough trails.
That said, the your Grizzly certainly has plenty of power but it's a heavy beast for sure. Not sure his 105lb lady who presumably is not a seasoned rider would be comfortable tossing it around. |

Wasn't saying to buy a 700 machine for someone with smaller weight/frame. Completely agree with you there. But I would suggest a 450 and know a few people where their wife/girlfriend is very happy on one of those.
But if dunes are the common place for riding, then absolute yes on a sport machine. |

From the dead! Necromancy!
Going on my first day long ride, to my first dedicated off road park. Apparently it is huge, like cannot cover all of the trails even on 2 days of solid riding huge. Should be fun. Anthracite Offroad park, AOAA. I am excited as hell and sort of scare, I have not done any real trail riding like this in literally 15 years. I know I am going to be dead ass tired tomorrow night and sore as hell the 3 days after that. I just hope I can make it a whole day and not slow anyone down. It'll be a group of 3. Gear wise, I probably overpacked but I think it's fine, was able to fit almost everything emergency prep/tool wise in a Harbor freight 15" toolbag (below). I was going to use the bag I use on my motorcycle, but it just felt to big. I know for a fact this will be the last season for all 4 tires and the chain. This thing sat unmoved on a dirt floor in a barn for 10 years, so there is dry rot on the tires and the o-rings on the chain gave up. More than half the O-rings are missing, and all will be gone by tomorrow night. Chain is low use, so the links themselves are in good health, just the O-rings dried up and broke off. It's come a long way since it looked like this: |
