I was going to rip the harness apart tomorrow to look at all the actual connections, and trace them out. I figured something on the harness is not wired correctly. Maybe I will wait until I can call them on Monday then. Thanks.

so after some time on the phone today with idatalink trying to trouble shoot my problem, they came to the conclusion that the rr2 unit was bad....Crutchfield is sending me a new one so hopefully I'll get back at it later this week...

Update: 8/7/20
Received new RR2 from Crutchfield today and proceeded to install, this time with the CAN lines military spliced with solder(they said t-tap was bad).....the same symptoms, radio will not automatically shut off when the car is shut off. Car info, gauges, TPMS etc do not work. When I look at the CAN STATUS page it shows an error: stufferr and count:9... According to the below link the SU2 harness is now compatible with 2018-2020 cars...I don't believe it. http://www.12voltdata.com/forum/view...18400&start=15 Last edited by murrdogg24; 08-14-2020 at 11:39 PM. |

Idatalink states that the mestro rr/rr2 does work with 2020 STi's BUT only if you have the the non-amplified/harman kardon system. Also I did read somewhere on there site that Idatalink is making a new wire harness SU3. The new SU3 (if they are making it) might work better when it comes out. I would try and call them again and see what they say. |

Further inspection shows that there are multiple wires on the SU2 harness that do not connect to anything on the vehicle radio harness.
This blue with red stripe wire leads to a blank spot on the vehicle radio harness https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fkv...ew?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1M6y...ew?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Gl-...ew?usp=sharing Here pins 7 thru 12, green with red stripe to yellow wires lead to all blanks spots on the vehicle harness.. https://drive.google.com/file/d/12cV...ew?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Lfs...ew?usp=sharing The RR2 is not getting a signal for my ebrake either, I can tell through the apps in the radio. Maybe this is because the SU2 harness is incorrectly pinned for my vehicle?? I am swapping out my DNX996xr for a Dnx997xr In order to senD in to kenwood for service so I can take pictures possibly Thursday when I do the swap.
If I remember correctly I do ground both the e-brake wires from the SU2 and kenwood harnesses to avoid all nanny notifications and video playback any time. I am harman kardon, but all wiring should be the same other than speaker wire connections really. |

See the attached guide; There is the car side of these wires, which should be cut and isolated, because the wires don't go to anything in the car, like murrdog said. If you hook the climate control wires to that side, the maestro won't get the signal. Nothing will, because you're sending the signal into empty pins. Hook to the other side, so the signal can go into the RR2, and you're good to go. |

So JiveDara, basically all we have to do is cut the brown/red and brown/yellow wires on the SU2 harness and then wire up the proper side that actually goes back to the RR2 module and can read the vehicles data. We dont want to use the car side of the cut harness that goes to essentially nothing and if done properly it will work?
Well that seems quite logical considering the RR2 needs the data from the vehicle to work and cant read it if its connected to nothing. |

It works as described.
I did swap my kenwood DNX996xr for the Dnx997xr On Thursday but I was not able to take pictures of wiring since i have it all tesa taped neatly. I did find that in the kenwood under maestro settings: AV-in - oem setup - vehicle features - amp settings - gain The default setting is 70% and my 2020 wrx harman kardon amplifier does not appear to like that "gain" specification. I mentioned during a call with support tech at idatalink that I was having audio cut out at high volume (33+ out of 40) and determined during my own testing on thursday that by adjusting the "gain" down to 50% the audio was perfect and does not cut out; which I am able to really adjust equalizer settings now. When I power off the vehicle though and review the "gain" settings again it reverts back to the default 70% every time. I discussed with tech to request that their development team change "gain" setting specification in my firmware to 50% or enable the saving of setting to hold. The tech I worked with said that he has the engineering team looking into the setting. Last edited by joostin420; 08-19-2020 at 09:03 AM. |

Did they get the gain setting fixed for you?

if I have time I am going to reach out to them tomorrow for an update to the gain setting item.
also, my iPhone 11 pro Bluetooth call volume is super low with both the dnx996xr and dnx997xr volume maxed out at 40. the only common item is the rr2; the speaker phone is louder. |

Issued a new firmware for the rr2 and flashed it today. Gain specification settings save now and hold upon restart.
They said that The Bluetooth call volume is not controlled at all by the rr2. The Bluetooth is self-contained within the head unit, so they aren't doing anything to change the audio output of specific sources. They recommend looking to see if there is a SLA (source level adjustment) for that source. I don't see anything in the kenwoods specific to the Bluetooth call volume in the "volume offset," and I have already upped the Bluetooth offset specification to 3 of 5. Going to contact kenwood maybe tomorrow. |

Update everything working now
Decided to have a crack at it again, since someone on the 12v forum pointed out that my CAN wires were hooked up wrong. I am pleased to say everything is working now.

That is good news.
I spoke too soon about my gain setting; it's not saving upon restart of the vehicle. I let support know again. |

I apologize for the necro bump, but I noticed that my RR2 is not responding properly in the summer time heat. The steering controls just drop out, and I lose my TPMS readings, then they will come back, then they will drop out again. The next day, everything will work fine. The following day, nothing will work. Give it a day, then everything starts working fine.
Now, I do believe my car is having some CAN electrical gremlins because I randomly lose my passenger side window switch and it is a pain in the butt to get it back. Basically I have to do the CAN reset procedure on the driver's side then tap and pull the passenger switch on the passenger's side multiple times while the CAN is in discovery mode. As I have joked with others, I thought this was a Subaru, not a VW with electrical gremlins, lol. |

Pulled the KENWOOD dnx997xr, maestro rr2, and su2 harness.
Installed new dnx1007xr, new su3 harness, and reflashed the maestro rr2. Everything works as it should. Only problem, which has been plaguing me with all of my KENWOOD head units over the years in my Subarus is that the volume of hands free calls over Bluetooth is very low (not using apple carplay). This is with apple iPhones in both my vehicle and my wife's MY18 Toyota Tacoma with KENWOOD dnx997xr and maestro rr2 (JBL premium). Both vehicles with factory head units Bluetooth call volume was perfectly fine and loud as can be. So which item is the culprit; KENWOOD, maestro rr/rr2, iPhone/iOS device? I am going to have my son pair his Samsung android phone to test. I cannot be the only one; anyone else experience the low Bluetooth call volume with similar configurations?
