If this thread has been going since before you registered what makes you think it’s off topic? Don’t you think a mod would have stopped that by now? Guys posting about oil restrictors and wastegate actuators/4port’s on their efr’s in an efr turbo thread isn’t really off topic. If you start posting about your interior or something now that’s a different story. Efr turbo guys post here and bounce ideas back and forth about their efr’s because efr turbo people are HERE in this thread (or subscribed), not in the troubleshooting sub forum. Like you said it’s been that was since before you registered. Plus Nasioc as a whole has slowed to a crawl with Insta/FB. Not much traffic flow here man, nobody gonna see it in troubleshooting. The Mods here keep NASIOC maintained and they know exactly what they are doing. I hope that makes sense. |

This thread is just fine. Like you (silversurfer05) already said, you want to research and learn about setups... You also need to learn about the issues.

This thread was invaluable to me when I first got my EFR.

Completely fine to learn about issues. But in a power bragging section makes absolutely zero sense. If anything just change the title to the thread to better relate to what it contains. But then it is technical troubleshooting information in a prove your performance type of section. It’s like going to the electronics section and talking about shift knob threads. As for the mods being active, I can’t comment on that, but without them doing what they are supposed to, the forms will just fall into disarray and disorder, leading to people going elsewhere to find information that has been put in the proper sections

So, I suppose bitching over several posts is more helpful? You don't need to be here.

At any rate, is anyone using the EFR7163 without an oil restrictor?
I'm finally getting my EFR installed next month and am trying to do all my homework on any quirks this turbo has so I can make my tuner aware. Waddlz has been helping me out. I'll be posting my setup in here once everything is installed. Here's my rotated kit: |

Thats a nice looking kit! Any coating or wrap going on? Check your v-band flanges with a straight edge while its in pieces. All three of my v-band points required flattening, and since I had some welding work done on the up pipe, it's leaking again as well. Might consider some of the ultra high temp copper gasket maker, as well, just for extra insurance.
I'm not running a restrictor on my 6758 and haven't run in to any issues yet, with about 17k miles on it. I did have an issue with occasional smoke on start up, but thanks to yamahaSHO's suggestion, it was just overfilled oil in the pan. Otherwise, no issues with turbo oiling so far on my setup with no restrictor. |

I think I'll have everything installed with no oil restrictor and see how things go. We can always add one down the road if needed. I'll have them check the flanges when they mock everything up off the car. Thanks for the heads up. |

Has anyone pressure tested the iwg wastegate on their turbos? Specifically the t25/v-band b1 efr turbos. I've installed the new re-designed turbosmart twin port internal wastegate actuator to test for leaks on the barb fittings etc. and the actual bracket holding the wastegate is moving/bending every time it actuates when pressure is applied. This is a design flaw. Metal bracket seems thick enough but it's still bending. This is probably the reason why we are having issues with boost control on these turbos with the iwg wastegates that borg warner supplies.

I don't have a B1 - T25 turbo anymore, but I do still have a 7064 on my S2000. I am interested in the new TurboSmart actuators after seeing them at PRI last year. I have a hard time holding boost past 8.5 PSI (spring is like 5 PSI), so I got a 4-port to swap in, plus looking at the new IWG. I'd like to hold 10 PSI flat on the S2000, as that's probably like 430whp and plenty for my track car. That's just 10 PSI tapering to 8.5 PSI in the last 1k RPM. I'd like to hold that torque curve a little flatter. It took like 26 PSI to make this power on my STi, with a slightly smaller EFR. |

I took some videos. I'll post one up when I get a chance. The new turbosmart actuator is not leaking I can tell you that much so hopefully it stays that way overtime. It no longer has that brass fitting in the end that always leaks.
I'm going to remove the turbo and clock it etc. to see if anything changes just in case it's an error on my part. With the high pressure wastegate provided from borg warner I made sure the wastegate alignment is right. I can move the wastegate arm on the turbo and it doesn't bind on the internal wastegate rod. With the new turbosmart dual port iwg a swivel/ball joint was added so I'm not sure if it's aligned properly but I'm guessing it would help more than anything versus having a straight rod as proper alignment was done prior. Either ways I'm going to get rid of some variables and report back with my findings when car is back in my possession. I do know that the brackets have change compared to the prototype efr turbos so I'm not sure if borg warner has made any changes on the DL over the years. Your good for 700whp on stock internals on the s2k so you got more wiggle room. That's a nice setup you got going there. Here is video link similar to what's happening now with the wastegate bracket. Not as bad but it's still bending. https://www.evoxforums.com/attachmen...em-mov.279866/ |

Oh wow... I would have thought that bracket was stronger than that.
Yeah, I definitely have room on the S2000. I've tune several turbo S2000's recently and I'm always happy with how easily they make power. On just 4.5 PSI of boost (ran wastegate for my first event with the turbo), it went from 112mph to 125mph in the straight at High Plains Raceway. |

Here are the videos of the bw iwg bracket bending. I've tried both the medium and high boost iwg canister provided from borg warner along with the new gen-v turbosmart dual iwg and it still bends. I've clocked the turbo numerous times and I've torqued down the allen bolts on the bracket to the point that I ended stripping one of them and the damn thing still bends.
Turbosmart iwg BW iwg BW iwg just doing its thing. So much for proper wastegate alignment. The new turbosmart iwg is a straight shooter minus the swivel. Bottom line the iwg bracket on this turbo is either a lemon or someone needs reinforce the damn brackets more. All that bending along with heat don't go hand in hand. Running an ewg is a sure fix and probably reinforcing the bracket with extra metal. |

I had the same reaction when I first saw it bend. I had another well known guy with me to that's no stranger to time attack events and we were both scratching our head. The s2k's are good handling cars. I've owned one myself and I've tinkered and tuned quite a few but never on a efr turbo. Must be a blast for what you use it for. |

What a ****ty bracket design. If they simply put some gussets or ribs on it, it would have been stiffer and a lot thinner.
I'd just weld a gusset or two on the backside of it. |

I'm gonna reinforce the bracket and weld in some gussets or extra bracing like mentioned and report back when I get a chance again to work on the car. Or maybe even machine a new bracket all together.

Upon checking the bracket more it's also bending right where the 3 mounting holes are that goes on the compressor housing. Even if you weld a gusset and reinforce the bracket itself it will still bend in that area. I was able to fix the issue but a custom removal brace was made to reinforce the bw iwg bracket and it no longer moves. I'll post pictures up when I get a chance.

Bracket:
And how it's mounted: If any of you guys have the older metal coolant reservoir that's where the other end of bracket is mounted on. I was also thinking of the using the smaller stock uppipe bracket and welding a similar brace that can be removed easily to reinforce the bw iwg bracket. |
