Default Fantasy F1 anyone?

Yes, I know there's a motorsports forum, but I don't hang out there... I hang out here.

So... any of you OT d-bags wanna let me take your money this season in Fantasy F1? I know there's a couple of you OTters that follow the whole championship like I do.

Registration is now open for the fantasy season I run. Usually there's about 15 folks that sign up, mostly local Reno/Sac guys... subaru club guys/scca folks, co-workers, some significant others. If anyone's interested it's a $20 + paypal fees to buy in; we give back 100% of what we take in as prize money. And the season is much simpler than most... just pick drivers for each race... no fantasy team management or anything. We've been running it for the last 5 seasons and it's usually a blast.

Check it out at http://ff1.seccs.org

Gander away!

And there are links to all the previous seasons on the main menu that kinda give an impression about how it goes. Except for the 1st season... we ran that one with an excel spreadsheet... I didn't have time to code up a website before that season began.

this makes it even more interesting.

A participant may not pick a driver more than 10 times during the season

That's really the whole point. You can't just pick RedBull, Ferrari, and McLaren cars all season long... you have to strategize a little.

The best part is you'll find yourself following and rooting for Sutil or someone during round 12, for example. It really gets you involved and paying attention to all the drivers... unless you just want to pre-pick the whole season ahead of schedule and sit back and wait to see what happens. But most people end up getting more interested in F1 because of the fantasy league... even my wife is now an F1 fan.

I'm waiting to hear back from a job, if I become employed I'll definitely be in. I know $20 doesn't seem like a lot, but when you've got no income coming in, it makes a difference

I know how it goes. I remember days in college when I had to choose between eating dinner or buying enough gas to get to work the next day. Nothing like catchup soup and some ritz crackers for dinner.

Hope the job pulls though. My mom, who had been searching for a job for almost two years finally landed one last week.

Got your registration!

No other OTters interested yet? Season starts in about a month. We usually close registration a day or two before the season starts, so ya'll have some time.

I might be interested, but will have to figure it out. BTW, the details for the bahrain GP are wrong, Vettel got third, it was Australia where he broke down.

Woops, looks like I screwed it up a bit. I remember in the race they said he had a header break, but then later they changed the explanation to "bad spark plug". Looks like he finished 4th... the DNF was in the next round.

All I remember was thinking mid-season that he lost the championship just because of reliability early on, 'cause he was the fastest basically all season long.

Monday bump. We're up to 7 people now...

Anyone know if Senna's going to replace Kubica for the season? I'm super bummed that Kubica's out... here's to hoping he heals up. He's one of my favorite drivers!

Less than a month 'till round 1!

We're up to 11 people now, which means the top 3 fantasy winners will make money.

Well, it wasn't without a headache... it took me like 6 hours to code all the changes to the site that allow me to cancel a round. Though, the really hard part was modifying everything so I could move the round to later in the season if Bernie decides we're running it in August or something.

Everything was being sorted by round number, so switching to sorting by deadline and fixing all the places where I was iterating over round numbers was a PITA. I still need to test it more before the season starts too.

thanks man.

i guess this is where having a major sports site handle it becomes a major pro.

we had all sorts of headache when we were running our football fantasy league at a home managed website.

Is there a decent site to watch the races online? Even if it has to be the next day. I don't get SPEED channel, but I always enjoy paying close attention to the season.

If I can find a way to watch the races, I'll be in on this.
