The recommended distance for watching a 4K TV is 1.5 times the TV's vertical screen size
TV size Viewing distance range (approx.)
43 inch 35 inches (2.95 feet)
49 inch 39 inches (3.28 feet)
55 inch 39 inches (3.28 feet)
65 inch 47 inches (3.94 feet)
75 inch 55 inches (4.59 feet)
85 inch 63 inches (5.25 feet)

I'm currently sitting at 12 ft. I need up up my game and upgrade that 55" to 85"

I’ve seen this listed posted so many times and it’s utter BS. I have a 75” 4k panel and no way in hell would I sit 5 feet from it. I’m about 10 feet and it’s perfect. And if I hit the recliners all the way down more like 11 feet from the panel and it’s still perfect. From 10-12 feet away I make out individuals hairs on screen and can tell the difference from 1080p all day. If your seating distance is 12 feet, you can either move the seating up a foot or two. And either 75’ or 85” will work. The quality of the panel, especially the blacks, is more important than screen size. I’ll take a better PQ 75” over a less PQ 85” panel all day. The key to a killer HT setup is thinking of it as a complete package. People get way too hung up on screen size and they should be working on audio. Once you’ve got some good clean bass, surround sound and some Atmos channels, man you’re livin’.

8k to me is absolutely pointless. 8k could be a thing if you are running over 100” screen and sit close enough but that’s like being the first rows at the movie theater, something I have never enjoyed.
