It is true that an aftermarket security system cannot provide 100% protection. But assumptions should never be made based on incomplete information!!! What if those systems were installed poorly or the owners were not properly instructed on their use?

The #1 cause of security system failure is due to a poor installation!

Someone I know purchased a "security system" for their '04 RS from the dealership...and the alarm brain was located directly behind the driver's lower dash panel! I found it in about 5 seconds and I'm sure it would have taken a trained thief even less time. It doesn't matter who you are dealing with, make sure you ask to see proof of certification and/or previous work history!

Nearly all alarm sensors are "multiplexed"...basically meaning that they have two different sensitivity levels. The first is called "warn away" because all it does is tell the alarm brain to sound a short beep of the siren. The second level (which is caused by a more serious disturbance) tells the alarm brain to trigger a full siren. For example, if you stand too close to a car with a field disturbance (a.k.a. "proximity") sensor, it will beep at you. If you try to reach your hand inside the open window, then it will trigger the alarm.
