Depending on the sub and room characteristics, that isn't necessarily going to be enough.

You can hear a subwoofer, the higher frequencies that a sub will generally be asked to reproduce are audible, not just something you sense. They are non-directional and hard to locate, but sub placement has a lot to do with the extension, and response in your room.
