So, hopefully this post makes sense.
Anyone with aftermarket speakers that don't clear the factory speaker grills, and have to use the covers that comes with their speakers, know how impossible it can feel attempting to tighten down the speaker in the cramped space by the back glass. My rear speaker would always do that slight farting sound this whole time cause I can't get my fingers or any tools back there.
So something I always wanted to do, I mounted the speakers into the factory brackets first (using the adapter rings that came with the speakers). The bolts that go through the grill and then through the speaker are a lenght where they first bottom out on the factory bracket. So drilled some clearance holes in the brackets so they can poke through. I then trimmed the grill to clear the factory bracket bolt holes. Now I can mount the entire speaker with factory bracket in at once first.
