Yes, we did, and still it rubbed a little. I'd stick with a 265/35R18 for easier fender clearance.

Without specifying a tire size, and without understanding your standards of what defines "working" or "fitting," I can't answer that. For a 9" wide wheel I'd normally run a 255 tire. A 255/35R18 at +38 will fit pretty well, but still may rub in the back under heavy compression.
