HID is dead. If your car has HID stock, stay HID as that's very good. If your car has ANY other style of headlight, LED is the way to go. Keeps the light source oriented correctly, gives you that nice white light that HID hopes to be, you DON'T have to run some crazy large ignitor/ballast somewhere under your bumper. You don't have to add that wiring in for that same ignitor/ballast. Modern LEDs are crazy good. I love the stock LED lights in my wife's Ascent and my niece's Nissan Rogue Sport. I put DOT legal LEDs on my Jeep and they're nice and white and nearly as good as my over-powered Hella E-Code headlights in my trackrat Miata. There are no longer any good arguments for retrofitting HIDs into a car that didn't come with them.
